Major development, Hamilton has been striped of pole. The rules state that a car must have a sufficent amount of fule on board to complete the in lap and provide a sample for inspection, but apparently the guy fueling up his car was accidently pressing the 'drain' lever for a few second before realising his mistake and switching to 'pump' but the car was underfuled. A silly mistake which means Hamilton will start last and Maldonado will start from his first ever pole position (and has said that he's targeting the win to boot now) with Alonso second and an all Lotus second row. It's a shame because Hamilton looked to be miles ahead of everybody today but I guess he'll provide an interesting race now.

I've got a good feeling that we'll see Raikkonen on the top step tomorrow.

Damn...thats crazy bitches. Someone will be fired shortly I imagine. If only it wasnt Moldy on top (as I only root for him to lose). Go go go anyone else at the top. Preferrably Kimi.

I'm not that much of a Maldonado fan either, but thats a hell of a present to give Sir Frank in the middle of his 70th birthday celebrations, which is when Williams found out they had poll.

I also don't really care for Maldonado, though really it's unfounded and he's been much better in an improved Williams.

Crazy news about Hami. It was odd how he stopped after the lap...guess he was out of fuel. Another costly mistake for McLaren. Will certainly be interesting, let's see what he can do. If anyone can make the drive it's him, as long as he stays away from wrecking with Massa back there Wink

Yeah, this really opens the road for Kimi, which I'd be a ok withBig smile

Massive penalty for Hamilton though. Bloody huge. And Vettel has got all those fresh tyres......

In fact I predict a Vettel win with Webber possibly third.

A wild snow dog appears! :O

Red Bull certainly was careful with their tires, maybe hurt in quali but they are in a good spot now.
Will be quite a race.

I don't think it hurt at all in the quali. Totally deliberate and tyre care will prove to be king. Great car plus fresh tyres = great result. Tyres are becoming too important I think.

I fell asleep through Qualifying.  Urgh.

But wow.  I missed a treat!  I was expecting Perez to take pole.  Well done to Grosjean too.  He had no Free Qualifying 3, so it's great to see he managed to get 3rd place on the grid.

I missed why Hamilton got a grid drop...

Ah, now I have read the follow-up posts about Hamilton.  Wow.  That is unfortunate!  By the way, he (or maybe Button or both) have a new tire guy as they decided it was the last guys fault for all the unfortunate pitstop errors.

So hopefully they don't have further issues with them now.  That is a bit harsh though as I thought it was a gun problem rather than human error.

Oh and Schumi, Vettel and Kamui not setting times is deliberate.  Schumi did it last year as well.  It's all about tires and we all know Schumi has been outspoken about the tires this season.

I do think he kind of has a point though.  Yes, all these amazing results are good for us as spectators but I do think there is something not quite right about these tires.  The degradation issues are varying all the time.  So Vettel, Schumi and Kamui not setting times is a good plan.

Well, that's you're wild and have appeared....I havn't been tracking you since the 90's snowie ; )

RBR took it easy in qualifying, maybe a bit too much so but I have a feeling they will be A OK for the race.
Pretty much as you said, in fact the announcers were kind of pissed...acknowledging the teams are just doing what's best for them but by not really bothering in Q3 it's making a mockery of the sport and all that.

Watcha gunna do?

Should be a great race and I'm hoping for a Kimi victory!

Edit: Maybe with Alonso taking 2nd and Vettel in third. I'd like it and James will surely just be thrilledWink

Pretty dull track, and from next year on Spain will only have one race as Barcelona and Valencia will alternate.

Good news slightly. I like Valencia a good bit, so I wish it was the only one...but if it means less Barcelona all the better.

So where is the Europe gp going to be held now?
Probably wont be one, they'll just keep it to Spain, Monaco, Britain, France/Belgium (set to alternate), Germany, Hungary and Italy in Europe for the future I think.

Well thats aok in my book. Never understood the Euro gp.

But alternating something with Belgium?????? Thumbs Down
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

Yeah call me silly, I always thought it'd be cool if the European GP was at a different place every year.
Ya know, what's the word......European?LOL
Not just "this driver is crazy popular so your country gets a second"

Spa is set to alternate??
Oooooh I am not happy about that at all

I tend to agree with you here, Hamilton should have been put back to 10th IMO, not last. It's a bit ironic that McLaren did the same thing, though deliberatly that time, to get pole in Canada 2010 and so are the reason the rule exists now and have been caught out by it.

Vettel and Webber will definitely move forward in the race but they don't seem to have the pace (Vettel wouldn't have done a hell of a lot better than his current 8th on the grid if he'd run anyway), but the Lotus pair looked really good on the long runs on friday practice, and Williams have proven to be better in the race than qualy this year so far.

The left rear tyre guy was changed before the third stops in Bahrain. There's definitely a design fault there, but he was the only one consistently getting it wrong, lets hope they've fixed that.

Kamui saving tyres was very deliberate, he was stuck out behind the turn 3 wall after a technical problem in Q2 so couldn't run weather he wanted to or not.Wink

^Well I can't wait ti see how it all pans out. Lewis should get some points I think....may even catch Jensen who is really unhappy with his car. I can't stand Alonso so hope he does badly...but, yeah ...all the best to Kimi. Be cool to see him win.

Some one tell  James  that we spell tyre with a "y".Confused

Tell me about it, but the Spa organisers are short on cash and it's a good way to get the French back in. Mind you the deal had been brockered by the French government, without public money, to be run at Paul Ricard in the south of the country, now the government has changed it will be interesting to see what happens. I've read that because of regional tiesw, they might want it to go back to Magny Cours instead, which would be a disappointment.

I agree it'd be good to get France back but uggggghh Magny Cours is sh*t
Also at the expense of Spa is such a shame :(

IDK why does James use a "Y" ? I thought that was the British way actually.
Though someone, I think Sleeper, said not necessarily. I also found out you guys know/use miles? My perception of reality is all messed up.

Well, Maldonado starting on his first "pole" didn't do a very good job with itLOL but has driven a great race thus far.

Interesting wreck with Schumi and Senna
More pit issues for McLaren!? And on top of the fuel issue yesterday. Team usually spot on, so many problems
Actually been a quiet race from Button as well.
Looks like RBR just isn't really feeling this track

Let's see what the second half holds.
