Topic: Wishbone Ash, Chicago Illinois Posted: May 05 2012 at 17:30
Well, actually, the venue was Fitzgerald's Pub in Berwyn, Illinois! Close enough! Very pleasant setting to wash down a pint of stout or three whilst listening to the boys from Torquay (originally, anyway!)
Wishbone Ash is anchored by original guitarist Andy Powell, who was in fine form! Other members include guitarist Jyrki "Muddy" Manninen, who replaced fellow Finn Ben Granfelt in
November 2004. With Muddy,
Wishbone Ash regained a slide guitarist & he used it to VERY nice effect!
The drummer's chair was held down by Joe Crabtree, Wishbone Ash’s new drummer, having replaced Ray Weston in March 2007.
Finally, Bob Skeat held court on Music Man bass. He was excellent & really channelled original bassist Martin Turner.
The house was packed, with an appreciative (if somewhat grey) audience!! Clearly, these were fans who have followed the band as long as I have (since Argus, of course!).
Speaking of Argus, the set was very much drawn from that classic LP. Also, their set list is very similar to set lists posted by others seeing the shows on this tour. Songs included:
The King Will Come
Warrior
Can't Go It Alone
Open Road
Lady Jay
Keeper of the Light
Sometime World
Warm Tears
Faith, Hope and Love
The Pilgrim
Reason To Believe
Invisible Thread
Here's a bit of concert video for you to enjoy! If you can see this tour, please do so, you won't be disappointed!
