Oops, you’ve already said it’s a place and not a building (so Gormenghast or the Outer Dwellings could have been right). A wild guess: Hundred Acre Wood?

I don’t really have it yet but I’m getting closer, I suppose … a female author?

None of the classics seem to fit … Alice, Narnia, Winnie, Wind in the Willows, Paddington Bear … Hobbit, Earthsea … even Postman Pat, Bob the Builder and Sesame Street …

Is the main character human?

No

Why does Postmna Pat  or Bob not fit? they both live in fictitious places.

Well, I thought that the TV series came before the books … Anyway, is it Greendale?

^I see what you mean now. You are right, but did I say the books came first? They did anyhow. Not greendale and not Postman pat or Bob

Ah, sorry, the main character is not human. Is it a locomotive?

As a child I loved Ivor the Engine (I see now that the storyline is heavily influenced by Dylan Thomas!). Is it that series?

Hey, I’m a bit proud right now! My locomotive question was just the right one. And when I looked up Thomas, it made much more sense than Ivor.

I have a new one, but I’m logging out, so I won’t answer until tomorrow. This one is also man made.
