Yeah! However, I'd love to hear that Ulf Wallander returns with TFK. That combo of Jonas, Ulf and Zoltan, yeah man, that's tastey music.

I was slamming TFK not too long ago during an online chat session, so much that I decided that I owed them another listen since a few years had past since I last listened to them. I'm not as appalled as I thought I would be and now I'm actually looking forward to their new album. Sounds kinda heavy compared to some of their stuff.

Er, what? Electro-poop? Not sure who you are talking about, but I am pretty sure it ain't Rush. And not bothering because there are no long tracks? Not exactly open-minded, is it?

Aye suppose there is , but I most associate it with variations in Jazz. I am more open to trumpet playing I suppose - I like Bix Beiderbecke's music - but I'm not sure it would fit into Prog - I associate it more with the Brighouse and Rastric Brass Band !!! It's just that I think the the sax actually subtracts something from the Flowerkings tracks it appears on....Especially "Devils Playground" - coz I hate that a great track has been tainted.... - I think I'll make myself an MP3 version with the Sax solo cut out of it....Maybe it's just me - but if the sax solo had been replaced by a wakeman like moog solo or even hammond organ...That track would be even more AWESOME....

Aaah Electro-poop Thats possibly a better genre for the CD's that came after "Moving Pictures" - same for Genesis after "Wind & Wuthering".....far more commercial - Rush can be said to be AOR then if that is more flattering - they decided to produce far more appealing (commercial) stuff - and it only takes a couple of duffers for me to not bother again - but I've listened to some of the later stuff and it's left me very unimpressed..... And aye - I Love long and indulgent music - it's called progressive rock

Aye - and you should buy it really - nothing like holding the CD in your hand after adding it to your collection and then you are supporting the progressive rock industry......

The simple fact is, there is an awful lot of CD's to lsiten to so Rush would be way-down the pecking order - unless they could produce a CD like 2112/Hemispheres/FTK/PW or MP...and I don't think thats happening as they have a new fan-base to cater for now.....

I love progressive rock, too, but I have an open mind and realize that great music comes in many shapes and forms. If you don't like Rush's newer stuff, then you don't like it, but incorrectly calling it electro-pop makes it sound like you either have never really listened to it or you don't have a clue what electro-pop is. So, which is it? ;)

Flower Power, Retropolis, Stardust We Are and Space Revolver are all great starter TFK records.
Do not start off with The Rainmaker or The Sum of No Evil.

Lets agree to call it A.O.R then Just a shame that Rush can't be tempted to reproduce some of the sublime music that they produced from 1976-1980. It's not progressive-metal nor Symphonic progressive Rock....Far more commercial than the earlier Rush thats for certain....A.O.R or Stadium rock it is then.....perhaps electro-pop ala Thomas Dolby/Gary Numen it aint.... just a bit of frivolity on my part I suppose.... What have you heard so far? I'd say, start with Space Revolver. Many do, and their double albums may be too much for a newbie. I think Unfold the Future is the best album, so if you like SR, get that next. Stardust We Are and Flower Power are good to go with after that, mind you, UtF, SWA, and FP are all double albums; but contain some of the band's best works. Eventually, you'll probably want to get them all. |

In my opinion, the best albums to start with are:
Space Revolver and The Flower King (by Roine Stolt). |

Every albums suggested before me is a good start and I would also recommend their live album Meet The Flower Kings@Live Recording 2003. It has four of some their best songs with Humanizzimo, Stardust We Are, Garden of Dreams and The Truth Will Set You Free.
