Updated list, now that i'm 4 months and 10 albums into them:
1. DISINTEGRATION (Their best by far. Atmospheric, electric, rich, moody, dark & very nice arrangements. Makes you wanna smile, cry, dance and everything. Depressing like Pornography, but with a danceable twist)
2. Pornography (Never got darker than this. Depressing, simple, yet beautiful music.)
3. Faith (A perfect mix of the minimalistic post-punk of the previous and the doomy, gloomy goth-rock of the follow up. Throw in some synths and that's it!)
4. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (A very long and uneven album. Some longer, dark songs, some short pop-ish-songs, and alot of songs in-between. Throw away some of the filler, and it could be one of the best!)
5. Seventeen Seconds (Rather simple post-punk, but far more interesting than Joy Division IMO. Very cool sounding!)
6. Head on the Door (A mostly happy album with many catchy tunes. Still got that gothic touch somewhere. Robert's hair maybe?)
7. The Top (Very uneven album. Probably has some of the worst cure songs ever, but also got some of my favorite songs like "Birdmad Girl")
8. Bloodflowers (Pretty simple rock music, but with long intros and a lovely goth-feel to it. 21st century Cure)
I also have "Entreat" and "Mixed Up", but i won't list them since they're not studio albums.

I love Pornography, a five star album.
Disintegration though? A lifeless bore. Can't even comprehend how it's considered competition for Pornography. But I will admit that Plainsong is a great way to open an album.

Ahh what a classic band
Disintengration Bloodflowers - Beautiful and dark Wish Kiss Me Kiss Me Pornography Seveteen Seconds/Faith Seldom has a band survived so long, if they can release another Bloodflowers type album like " underneath The stars" off 4.13 dream we will be happy Cure fans again. Disintegration has to take number one spot because it is an epic album in so many ways. They really nailed the USA market with it too.

Check record sales but Lovesong, Lullaby and Picture Of You really honed in on the goth community here. A massive massive hit here

I always feel that the purest goth fans are true Cure fans....and many may argue that Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is the best album. Highly recommend getting the official " Wish" live DVD. Gives you a great snapshot of what they and the fans are about

Check this out: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2010/jan/22/eighties-revival-decade Another interesting piece about recent revivals in general: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jun/02/total-recall-retromania-all-rage I remember reading Julian Cope on the post-punk revival, but I don't know where to find that one. |

My first taste of them was The Head on the Door, which got played daily at the record store where I worked. Even so, it's a bit "light" to be the best Cure album. I think the one that gets under my skin the most after all these years is probably Faith.
