I did mine off the top of my head, and I forgot about A Change of Seasons, The Light, and forgot to consider any Tangent epics, or Neal Morse epics. The Door by Neal, would be #11 for me.

Speaking of "The Flower King", sooner or later, I'm going to get around to checking out the "other 2" Roine solo albums, "Hydrophonia" and "Wallstreet Voodoo" How are they? I'm particularly interested in checking out Wallstreet Voodoo because of the lineup with Neal sharing vocal duties with Roine. I'll get them both eventually, but which one is better?

Both are good, but fairly different. Hydrophonia is all instrumental, and has some great individual songs (Little Cottage by the Sea is absolutely gorgeous), while Wall Street Voodoo is very bluesy and not really proggy at all. Neither is as good as The Flower King, but both are worth getting if you are a Roine Stolt fan. :)

Im curious to hear Roine and Neal in a blues/rock setting, I'd probably enjoy it a lot. Plus it's got Hasse B. and Marcus on percussion and drums respectively. Hydrophonia is also an album I'll definitely get. This also reminds me, that I want to get more Tomas Bodin albums, as I really enjoy I AM, even though I know his other albums before that one are different, from what you guys have said. |

Yeah, Biff kind of hit the nail on the head here. The only thing that I'll add here is that while "Wall Street Voodoo" is certainly not prog, I absolutely love it though I really enjoy blues. I have both Hydro and Wall Street, Wall Stree gets a regular playing, Hydro does not.

Neal Morse only sings on two songs on WSV, so keep that in mind if you are expecting it to be a 50/50 thing.

Yeah, same agree with Tom. Hyrdo is interesting in that Roine plays everything except drums (by Salazar). It has some good stuff, but I don't really think it has Roine's best guitar work. It's one of those that I forget what it sounds like almost immediately after it's over, and I've heard the thing dozens of times. Still enjoyable while it's playing and required for any die hard Roine fan. Just so you know, the vocals on Wallstreet are mostly Roine. The songs Neal sings on all have a Beatles vibe and are more pop sounding (like 60's type pop though I guess). All the bluesy singing is Roine. My only issue with the album is that I feel like on a lot of the songs, the lyrics are kind of plastered over the top and don't really fit very well into the music. Just my impression, since it's a very wordy album. I think they are great lyrics though, just a bit too much of them for the type of music. Doesn't stop me from enjoying it a lot though. Roine has some killer guitar tones on that album, way more varied than any Flower Kings album in that regard. |

I notice that too. I don't consider it top 3, but it's worth at least one point I would think. Same with The Flower King, I'm surprised at how many zero's it's getting. I think that album has a couple of Roine's best guitar solos, if not THE best. Still, it's not really a Flower Kings album, so it is missing some of the magic that those have and while his keys playing is good, it does lack the atmosphere and style of Bodin. |

Sacrilege!!!! I guess I'm mostly alone in having that as a favorite album. It is mostly a sentimental favorite for me, since it's the first I heard by the band and blew me away from the first song. But it just has everything I love about prog in a fairly concise package (it's the shortest Flower Kings album). Give it more time, as it's loaded with great stuff. I imagine it's partly because it was the last TFK album I got, so it's got that distinction with me. It's still good of course, and is better than The Rainmaker. Compared to The Flower King and Back In The World of Adventures, it didn't strike a chord with me as much as those first 2 albums did when I first heard them. *shrug* |

I have just given UTF a partial spin. The opening epic is good but nowhere as good as all the earlier epics and I like the Devils playground - but it's spoilt by that god-awful saxophone solo...I am getting a lot more anti-sax (I said SAX) as I get older....I much prefer all other wind instruments over the god-awful saxophone......I used to be more tolerant of it - but now I find it just grates.....
Anyway - all the earlier flokis cd's are far superior to UTF - I do like the start and end of the fifth track on CD1 - but again spoilt by a fairly nondescript middle bit..... Am I being too harsh - anyway on my current listening the latest effort by The Agents of mercy is far superior to the flokis last four CD's ... but hey-ho thats just me....Anybody concur?

I didn't give The Flower Kings any points because it isn't a TFK album, and I didn't give The Rainmaker or The Sum of No Evil any because they are, IMO, their two least best records, and I wanted to used my points for the best stuff.
I agree that The Truth Will Set You Free is merely good. Good, but not great. It meanders a bit too much for me; it could have been a great 20-minute tune. As far as TFK epics go, The Truth is way down on the list. It cannot touch Garden of Dreams, I Am the Sun, Stardust We Are, Big Puzzle or Monsters and Men.

You don't rate "The Black Forest" then? - of all the CD's I have purchased in the past two years - this is the top for me and I have bought a lot of classic CD's in that time. Don't know why I love it, but I do.....and it has church organ in it and no saxaphone - always a winner in my book....

Don't get me wrong, I really like The Black Forest, but next to Paradox Hotel and Unfold the Future, not a chance, I'd put The Black Forest above Adam and Eve but below The Sum of No Evil.

You are correct in that it's not too far from me (about 75 miles) but I've got a big problem that weekend because it's my daughter's Birthday Can you believe it? I've been waiting 5 years to see The Flower Kings again and the only two dates announced so far is that weekend I'll have to see if they add any more dates in the UK or maybe even go over to Holland or somewhere. |

To me it's easily their least engaging album. Maybe it was the hype leading up to its release and the expectation was just to high, but for me it just doesn't deliver anywhere near as much as any of their other albums. I got into the band in the late 90s so every album from Space Revolver has been a new album to me but TSONE is easily the one I play the least. I'm trying not to get too hyped up about Banks of Eden because I don't want the same level of disappointment. |
