As said before, the oly song I'm sure about the meaning is Eleventh Earl of Mar and the Misadventures of John Erskine 11th Earl of Mar.

Even the reference to Perth

Out on the road in the direction of Perth,

Leaves no doubt, he took the forces under his command to Perth (Pairth ) where precious time was lost and due to his incompetence, the Jacobites were lost.
