Great to have you back up in this place John And just like you said, we, at least some of us, work with a somewhat loose definition of Krautrock that opens up to a lot of different genres such as fusion, electronic and psych. I too have my early Kraan and Exmagma in the Krautlands of my collection Regarding RYM and the whole tagging thing, I think it could be interesting to have multi-tagging as well. We'd be facing a lot of Swedish acts in Kraut as well - such as Älgarnas Trädgard, Kebnekaise, Arbete och Fritid, International Harvester and Fläsket Brinner.

I just got this fabulous album called Gurumaniax, and what an album it is!!!
Featuring both Mani and Ax this one is damn near as close to an original Guru Guru release - had it not been for the involvement of bassist extraordinaire Guy Segers off Univers Zero!!! Rrrrrraaauuww!! If anyone here thinks this sounds like a tasty combo, then here's a clip from the album: |

^^ Good stuff, it really does sound like Guru Guru! Is that a recent release?
btw, once when I was reviewing Ax Genrich's "Wave Cut", I misspelled his name "Gingrich" by accident, much to the editor's amusement. |

Damn that made me laugh like a little schoolgirl Steve...
Ax Gingrich..... On topic: yep this is a fairly new release from 2010, and you're absolutely right about it sounding like Guru Guru. Great stuff indeed. BTW I saw you talking about your affection of Canterbury in another thread, and I wondered if you have heard a German band called Nosferatu? They made one album back in 1970, which combines both Canterbury and Krautrock resulting in a very seductive groove. It's got a huge gorilla on the cover as well, but I can't show it to you right now, as I am writing this on my phone. |

When and if you have the urge, then I give you Willie the Fox: I really dig how the track develops into these beautiful atmospheric flute emanations lead on by a mumbling bass line and some gentle percussive work.

I loooove David Axelrod(Damn fine name as well), especially his debut, but I don't think he belongs anywhere near Krautrock Pierre He is symphonic first albeit with a twist.

I am so impressed with Gurumaniax. And i don't know why but the thought of Segers from Univers Zero playing in a Krautrock band is mind bending. Great album though as i listened to it on the way to work, none of these guys have lost a beat.

That's an interesting combination of elements. It reminded me a little bit at first of Captain Beyond, kind of a psychedelic/prog hybrid - but CB wouldn't have had such a lengthy mid-section like that. They hit upon a really neat sound in that mid-section, just freaky enough to raise my eyebrows ("far out!", they were heard to say), but not so freaky as to sound contrived and excessive (not that I mind that either...he he). Interesting stuff, thanks for that. |

John: I find it a tad suspicious that we quite often seem to go hand in hand musically. Are you by any chance spying on me you crazy man? Seriously though, I fully agree with you on that release - it is just mindblowingly sweet to hear these guys play together, and on the face of it one wouldn't really know that they're somewhere between 80 and 300 years old...
Steve: I'm glad you liked it. I feel somewhat guilty - just hurling vid after vid after you, but it sure feels nice having you around here. So yeah, do feel free to stop me when you think it is getting out if hand BTW I really like music that's contrived as well - it just has got to have some soul.

Me ? Spying on you ? Well that's just silly, it's not like i have your address or anything like that. Yeah the picture of the boys(Gurumaniax) in the liner notes paints something you might see at the Senoir Centre. The music of course paints another picture. A picture of three ultra talented musicians who still kick ass !. |

No problemo David, I like sampling new things I haven't heard, particularly if they're related to my favorite genre (
