He died in England.  His father was English (but not completely associated with England either) and his mother was born in England (but the daughter of a Scotsman).  However, he is not associated with England as such.

We've already established he was born after 1800. Wink

He lived on and off in England but is more well known for other things in a different place.  That was not the place he was born, by the way.  He wasn't born in England but I'd say he probably classed himself as English.

He was a member of the Bengal Army of the British India Company.  However, that is not why he was well known.

Not sure if that's giving the answer away or not... hmm.  Also, he was not a novelist or a writer.
