At least it would give us something to look at while we,re listening to all the classics. Anderson even sounds like a chick when he gives interviews. A Yes cover band from Seattle, Washington called Parallells had a female vocalist for a while in 2007-08 named Robyn Dawn. They could call it Robyn Dawn with featuring the Yes cover band Yes. Or they could become a Yes jam band playing wicked cover versions of songs like Dark Star by The Grateful Dead. There's a few videos out on youtube with Robyn Dawn with Parallells. A particularily good one is Perpetual Change from 2008 complete with drum solo. Sorry I don't know how to add videos being from the mid 16th century..

You make great points, but I do think that Jon Davison is more than adequate to fill in.  As a YES wack-o I am deeply bummed that JA is still out, but I am excited about JD.  Have you heard Glass Hammer - If?

I would like to add:

A big reason artists like YES keep touring is that they do need the money.  Most are not financial conservatives, and touring is their paycheck as they don't have real jobs like you & I.   So I know a lot of the old bands tour cause it is the best way for them to generate income.

For me, I understand that and I have no problem if the concert is still worth hearing.  Would I see Styx without Dennis DeYoung, prolly not.  But I saw YES with BD and for me it was worth it. Actually my wife who is new to YES, loved it!
As she can't stand Jon Anderson's voice. Confused   Much to my chagrin.

About a female voice in YES:  For all the talk of Jon Anderson's high voice he does have very much a male component in his voice, dare I say similar to Geddy Lee.  We have heard what a female sounds like in YES.  Check out Annie Haslam with Steve Howe on their version of Turn Of The Century.  I love Renaissance & Annie, but to me the female voice is too fragile(pun intended) and just doesn't work, or I guess I would need to really adjust.

There is a wonderful band from Poland, Quidam.  They had an angel for a lead singer.  She left and Quidam replaced her with a male vocalist.  I try & try but I can't make the adjustment.  It is a huge change to make.

Bands with crazy high male vocals:

YES
Journey
RUSH

I am not sure an actual female voice in these bands would work, it certainly would change the dynamics completely.

What about Pavlov's Dog. That David Surkamp really sounded like a Bee Gee. Lots of prog bands sound good with chicks though. Babe Ruth, Octopus ( Ger ), Frumpy, Amon Duul II, Ruphus ( Norway ) , Rennaisance and Curved of course. There's some others but I dunno, bands like Rush, Journey and Yes are lucky they had excellent musicianship. When Rush had that chick Aimee Mann on Time Stand Still I almost pulled my hair out. Why?? Why ?? didn't they keep her and have her on the whole album??Nelly Furtado covered it a couple of years ago.

Great video.  Do they play the entire song?

The guitarist on the right with the hollowbody is fabulous.  Why is there a 2nd guitarist in the band?
If anything a YES tribute band needs a 2nd keyboard player, I would think...

Anyway, awesome video.  I wish I didn't move to the sticks and I could get to see some of the great
YES & RUSH & Genesis & Pink Floyd cover bands....

Did you watch that video I posted?  Those people were from Chicago, you know, actually I think they might
be neighbors of yours....Wink

All of "Revealing Science of God" is on Youtube, but they posted it a while back when there were more time limitations on uploads.  Just search around for Fragile UK tribute or something.

Yeah, Hook and I look a bit alike!  He's a FINE bassist (I knew the late, great Gary Strater of Starcastle, who was in that class).  I've met most of the great Rick players of the '70s, some of the younger guys like Chris Hook are right up there.

No, I didn't see your video, Slartibartfast, could you provide the link to that thread?  We've had a slough of Yes and Genesis trib bands lately, plus a very good Dio band, a few good UFO trib band etc.  Many of these bands are quite excellent & attempt some of the most difficult material.

Have a great weekend!  Here's Fragile's website....when Yes lay down and die, these guys may keep going:

Oh the lovely Emila Derkovska, had the chance of seeing them live at that time, she did a cracking cover of Purple's Child in Time which blew the audience up... an angel both in her voice and her looks.

This is the first shred of news I've found about the Yes show in Auckland, New Zealand....not much red meat here, but worth a glance:

I'm surprised that no YouTube concert clips have been posted yet!  They are usually up within hours of a show (if that).  I'd like to see how Davison did.  This review said he was somewhat "tentative," but that may be understandable.
I just hope he doesn't get a bad chest-cold or something!

"Though it's Davison's first show with the band, he does original singer Jon Anderson proud. And while he is a little tentative at times, the man who used to be in a Yes tribute band hardly misses a note, which is impressive considering these are hard and high songs to sing."

Nice article. It seems it's all going wonderful for Davison. Though I find a bit distasteful Squire's comment about wishing they had got Davison earlier so they hand't had the need to go with Benoit. I think Benoit did a very nice job with Fly from Here... though I still have hopes that Davison will be an upgrade.

Those comments about David were unnecessary. Squire really doesn't seem to be a pleasant man.

Also, what side project between Howe & Hackett??LOL

Here's a brand new article about Jon Davison & Yes.  It's sounding to me like Jon D. will be the vocalist on a future Yes CD, so he is likely to split vocalist duties between Yes and Glass Hammer (who have a new CD, "Perilous," coming out in Fall 2012 - final mix being performed as I type this!)

I'd appreciate PA comments - I haven't seen Juano with Yes, but from Youtube clips and reviews, he sounds like he's doing very well in the vocalist slot!!

Squire has been saying he's happy that Davison is also a Song-writer... so I guess that's good news. Yes desperatley need more musical ideas, I hope Davison is the man to give them (when they tried to have Billy Sherwood helping with the songrwriting, they didn't get exactly the best results one could hope for, and I don't think Geoff Downes can give the best ideas for a true prog song either).

i saw them a few weeks ago and Davison was phenomenal.  just incredible.  never missed a note, stayed strong the entire show and had a very cool, mystical presence reminiscent of anderson in the early 70s.  i really enjoyed seeing him.  chris, alan and steve sounded great too.  Jon sang The Ancient with Steve, which i've never seen.  they also mixed the set a bit.  unfortunately, the songs were slow and Fly From Here was a real buzz kill.  the biggest problem was Downes.  he is a complete hack and has no business playing with Yes.  he's all over the place, low in the mix and made some pretty bad mistakes during the show.  not only could not play the intro to awaken, but he popped the organ on in the middle of it and then back to piano.  very tacky.  i thought that maybe he'd gotten himself together since seeing them last summer.

i'd love to see jon on a yes album.  unfortunately, i'm not holding my breath.  if it does materialize, i'm not too sure it will be any good.  recycling ideas from 1980 gave FfH a boost.

They left out the part about stabbing the orginal lead singer and primary songwriter, Jon Anderson, in the back while he lay in the hospital recovering from flat-lining twice at a time when his contract was up for renewal. They also left out the part about the first tribute band singer they hired embarrassing the band repeatedly with subpar performances and disco dancing. YES is now a parody of itself without any soul remaining. It is Big Generator Machine Messiah interested only in stealing money from Jon Anderson fans who do not know what downright nasty and mean people the other members of the band truly are.

- A comment on that page.

It's strange to see that after hiring a guy who had a voice completely different from Jon's (Trevor Rabin), they are looking for someone who must have a voice that matches perfectly the one of Jon's. Jon (Anderson) is still active, so why are they looking for a copycat if they can have the original ?

i really wish steve would do some solo tours and the original band pulled together to record and do some residencies.  touring at that age has got to be rough.  i'm almost 40 and i'd go insane on tour.
