what is modern rock anything after the 90s, or from the 00s to the 10s,, anything after the 80s is modern rock, if then...hmmm, some Jellyfish (band) is a ncie 90s pop/rock/surf band, maybe some Foo Fighters, they have alot of energy and you just feel inspired listening to Dave Grohl singing,Big smile,  Pearl Jam are nice and have some good albums from the 90s and 00s, also Jeff Buckley album Grace should be listend to, great eclectic rock album with raga touches

I think most of the modern bands I listen to are kind of "out there", but here's a couple which aren't all that weird:

Yo La Tengo - New Jersey trio that's been around for 20+ years, very Velvet Underground-influenced

Field Music -- sharp British pop rock that's intelligent but not wimpy.  Reminds me of 10cc and XTC a bit.

I really like Kings of Leon sometimes. I honestly don't know much modern rock even though I'm in college and surrounded by it every day.

Most of the rock I listen to is stuff from the '90s - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.

I only like bands that are old and washed up like some spent burnt out piece of jet trash.

I listen to a bit of modern rock, but most of it washes over me as "stuff I've heard before". Of the Top-40 bands Biffy Clyro, 30 Seconds to Mars and My Chemical Romance can produce albums that interest me, as does Muse of course. My current favourite non-prog rock band would be The Eden House.
What?

Well thank God for that. Sometimes my outdated slang backfires. LOL

I like older Kings Of Leon and The Black Keys but I can't think of much more non-PA stuff. This is the only song I have heard from this band but it has been one of my favs of the past few years:
