I haven't been down that since I was a kid. My sister and her hubby live in St. Petersburg. I wouldn't lump it in Tampa. Although we overshot the turn off and my wife was driving and was freaked out a little by the bridge to Bradenton. ![]() Edited by Slartibartfast - March 22 2012 at 18:57 |

This is sort of interesting:
"In the years since Katrina, New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward has undergone a reverse colonization: nature reclaiming civilization." More sad though. Edited by Slartibartfast - March 23 2012 at 04:59 |

Do you mean would or could? I agree with the would part, unless you're electing Ron Paul. A candidate's serious errors should still be pointed out even if the other leading candidate also suffers from it. If you mean could, then I'm afraid I don't understand what you're saying.

Your electoral system does not favour a 3 party system so "could" is unlikely to occur.

I don't see how an individual escapes culpability simply because another one would have acted identically.

Never said they would or should, I suspect it was the Intelligence agencies that requested these changes and either possible administration would have granted them with minor provisos and "safeguards" imposed dependant upon the political orientation of that administration..

I read that yesterday. Depressing. There goes the martyr of freedom. There goes the defender of liberty. Worse thing is , 3 out of the other 4 would be just as bad and 2 would be even worse for personal liberties.... ![]() |

Interesting read on how solar power could affect utility companies.
I found it interesting that one of the conclusions the author drew is that in order to compete, utility companies would have to become more service/customer-oriented, rather than just deliver their product. "While the AEMC report is at least a step in the right direction, there is a big question remaining over whether the energy industry is moving fast enough. It’s not simply a matter of changing the rules and the incentives, it is also a question of culture.Having spent decades simply delivering their product to the door using a “take it or leave it” approach (did the consumer have any choice?) the energy utilities now realise that they have to learn how to bring their business inside the household — in ways that the AEMC envisages; with smart meters, in-house displays, load controllers, storage and the like." |

For some reason the story reminds of natural gas "deregulation" in Georgia. No analogy on my part. Same company supplying the same gas over the same pipes. What we got was marketers, including the original gas company still supplying the gas. Guess what happened to the price of natural gas?
I've been a firm believer in the potential of solar. One of the most disgraceful things that Reagan did was take the panels off the White House after Carter. Right now in Georgia we are paying extra money in electrical utilities to fund nuclear plants that haven't been completed. Edited by Slartibartfast - March 27 2012 at 11:15 |

Instead of creating the whole supragovernment that seems to be the wet dream of some, every single governmentshould collapse and be split in multiple smaller ones and so on until the remaining unit is so minimal in size that government actually ceases to exist. Of course this is going too far into an utopic future so let's just hope for the baby steps first. Eliminate everything resembling a New One World Order.
