Surely this musy qualify as an obscure topic. In the most excellent 1972 Elizabeth Taylor film X, Y and Zee (also called Zee & Co.), her character plays on a couple of occasions an LP of what sounds like really good instrumental prog rock. The credits list two likely titles, "Whirlwind" and "Coat of Many Colours", both credited to Rick Wakeman and Dave Lambert. I thought, "I'll just go online and find these", but to my surprise they are nowhere to be found. Given the number of rabid Rick Wakeman fans in the world, I find it astonishing that these two tracks are unavailable anywhere, even on someone's blog as mp3s, and that people haven't discussed them. Does anyone here know anything about these songs, or even better, have them? All my Googling has failed.

Maybe not particularly obscure, but a little film of Phil (it's that man again) Collins with Jethro Tull 30 years ago:

What a marvellous piece of film (and music!). Cheers Jim - really enjoyed that, and the first I knew of Collins playing with Tull.

Wakeman is probably best known for his keyboard work in Yes, and is a prog god in his own right. Lambert was in the Strawbs (perhaps at the same time as Wakeman).

I guess this would fit into prog related. The sabbs originally wanted to call Paranoid War Pigs but ran into all kinds of problems with the lyrics of the song having associations to black magic, something tthat the band themselves wanted to avoid. Warner Brothers who were their label stateside also felt that the title was politically incorrect in the wake of the Charles Manson murders as well as the usage of the word " pig " in American slang not to mention the Vetnam war that was raging at the time ( 1970 ). So both the lyrics and the title of the album were ultimately changed to Paranoid that was written in the studio in less than 12 minutes. A version entitled Warplurgis with the original lyrics appears on The Ozman Cometh Ozzy Osbourne compilation. There are also other versions that have surfaced in bootleg form from time to time.

Another Yes-man film-score, though this one's not so obscure because I've mentioned it before and it's now on Wikipedia: Jon Anderson contributed two songs to the 1987 film Biggles: Adventures in Time, namely "Chocks Away" and "Do You Want to Be a Hero"... as far as I know they've never been officially released on disc.

I think it is funny to watch Collins playing heavy metal music. And also, Iommi was in Jethro Tull for a little moment.

In other news: some time ago Johnny Rotten admitted that "Aqualung" had made quite an influence on him.

It was part of the concert celebrating Queen Elizabeth's golden jubilee... she was in the audience & met Ozzy afterward: ![]() I watched this on tv praying... PRAYING... "please Ozzy, say F ![]() ![]() [edit] There's a great shot toward the end of that film clip with the royal box all applauding politely, except Prince Harry, who's clapping over his head & shouting his head off with a huge grin on his face. There was some kind of orchestra ( I think it was the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, might be wrong ) in the background and they were even getting into it ! Kick ass version though.

Robert Fripp admitted some time ago that he hated much of KC's early 70's stuff ("The Ambient Century", Mark J. Prendergast)
