I am not sad to see Rush go at all.
But the whole Republican party is imploding at this point. Perhaps it's just the pendulum swinging again, but this presidential campaign season is not just a feeble attempt (a la 1996), but is actively damaging the party.
Politics may get wierd over the next 4 years.

When Santorum actually has appeal in 2012, you know the party and its base especially are beyond bonkers. I don't blame the GOP itself really, I blame the vast swaths of the Republican base that have gone f**king bananas. It's the tail wagging the dog, really.

I'd have more respect for the party if Paul were in the lead and the rest were biting at his heels. |

You and me both. Paul might have been in the lead, but how much sway does the media command? |

Good question and I believe the answer is way too much. I keep hearing that the party faithful don't like the choices they are presented with but Ron Paul is the best alternative and he constantly comes in at the bottom. Are the media really to blame or are the party faithful? Edited by Slartibartfast - March 07 2012 at 18:33 |

Judging from the numbers, I'd say that a large number of supporters, vocal as they may be, simply don't vote in the primaries (or are too young to). |

Haven't certain news networks admitted to actually ignoring Ron Paul? One CNN spod, actually said on air "We're in the business of kicking people out of the race"
If this is true, then the media has a profound effect over who comes where, and who ultimately wins the nomination, imo. In the UK, whenever the GOP race is covered on the news, they only ever talk about Romney and Santorum. I imagine most people don't even know who Ron Paul is, over here. But the principle of keeping down any politician who challenges the power structure, and the relationship between government and mega corporations, is a global one. They are treated either like idiots by media, or regarded as a loveable mavericks, to be respected, but certainly not voted for!! We have enough of them here in the UK. They sit at the back of the house and try to push ludicrous anti war, and anti globalisation agendas. Bless em. Someone should remind them who's really in charge. Here's the thing, if Ron Paul is doing so badly because of the media then your average republican voter isn't thinking for his or herself.

Your average voter doesn't think for himself. Is there anything more obvious than that?
But your implication is wrong anyway. That's not the conclusion to arrive at. |

Quoting without adding anything of use Though I really was surprised at the success Paul has had. A totally unofficial "street level" observation a lot of people really seem to like Paul. Shame that the youth really are lazy/apathetic in the end. I have no doubt if everyone that likes him actually went out he could be in the lead. If you are relying on the youth and "non voters" to support you it's quite a gamble oh + the media, the GOP itself and other factors. Edited by JJLehto - March 09 2012 at 09:34 |

I've hated this story since it insists on saying in every headline that the moon sunk the Titanic. The moon causing a tidal force stronger than normal resulting in increased glacial drift does not really give you that the moon sunk the Titanic. It's such a cool story, but the headline just annoys me.
