I also grew to hate "sell out" even though I used to say it a lot. haha guess we learn with time.
I can see that. I really only know one "funk metal" band (Primus) but Peppers did come first and did infuse funk in. When I hear a song like "Dani California" and think to what Red Hot Chili Peppers were like it is QUITE a 180 ![]() |

It's a somewhat useful term though for saying a band has turned towards a more marketable direction. The only thing that annoys me about it is that if you use it you're assuming you know why a band changed their sound, even though it was probably money. ![]() |

That is true, "turned towards a more marketable direction" is a bit much. Yeah I realized maybe, once in a while...a band changes because they just want to ![]() Also as Tool said (paraphrase) you sell your soul the moment you sign to a label anyway, soooo ![]() Edited by JJLehto - March 08 2012 at 02:16 |

yeah and some finds it hard to get that musicians also get older, and probably softens during their aging, and when age creeps in fantasy and imagination creeps out, which in the end will couse stale ideas and calmer albums,
their is a ton of difference between Roxy Music debute and Avalon, it is also a 10 year gab between the albums, the same can be said about Gentle Giant and Giant for a Day and to lesser extent Civilian, |

Yeah, I did notice while it's in our nature as proggers to loathe the mainstream and selling out, I believe GG, Genesis, Yes (others Im sure) "sold out" at some point. Also that a lot of these bands were "big" in the 70s. My parents who don't know a lick of prog rock know of Genesis and Rush
![]() Hell, KC even "charted" for a lot of their albums in a few countries! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Crimson_discography ![]() Edited by JJLehto - March 08 2012 at 02:35 |

the drums in this Cat Stevens song is very good sounding IMO, also the drumming is supperb and crisp, and nice fills, nicely syncopated

"Guitartrics" sounds like a mash-up of "guitars" and "geriartric".

Yeah, I'm ready to be stoned for this:
Rush is good and all but never blew my mind. They are a straight forward "normal" prog rock band. Really, they are a hard rock that's progressive ![]() I'm kind of surprised KC seemed to have some popularity at least back in the day Edited by JJLehto - March 08 2012 at 05:44 |

As do I.
That was not quite the point :P I also like Kansas (just in case Rob sees this and goes berserk)! Edit: I really hope your last name is Dallas. Because I think Austin Dallas would be pretty kick ass, and might make you an American hero. Edited by JJLehto - March 08 2012 at 07:50 |

I've never thought Rush were the most amazing, but I've always liked them. They got a ton of plays when I first got into prog because I could actually find their CDs. My favorites were 2112 and A Farewell to Kings. Surprisingly, Hemispheres did almost nothing for me at all.

Perty much, they are a good rock band. A good, moderately prog rock band. Its OK Alan mine has some kind of virus on there. People thought I was on drugs but I'm tellin ya I see random words that are underlined that become links. Like if I see car...it may be underlined and I click on it, taking me to a place selling car parts. Just scrolling over said words causes a small pop up. Annoying as f**k and real intrusive, I ran everything I have and it's still here. This thing is worse than the usual online STD...this is like the digisyphilis, advanced to final stage ![]() |
