New Marillion Project... Edison's Children

   Nice that I got the chance to hear this on Spotify. So here are my personal impressions:
Overall it's tame. Feels more like a modest little experiment rather than a full blown ambitious project, but as such is pretty okay. The sound made me think of Pink Floyd and Fields of the Nephilim at times. The music is underdeveloped, the form of the songs too simple with some musical motive being repeated throughout the song. The biggest negative thing is the drum machine. It doesn't work, and that in combination with the whole thing being adapted to a metronome click makes it sound like a home studio project. "The Awakening" has real drums though but the song keeps going on with the same chord sequence, didn't do much for me, after one listen at least. There is a unity to the album as a whole though and an overall kind of gloomy mood, and feels solid the way the songs go into one another. Nice bass, guitars and vocals

The central musical theme that comes again (Fallout) has two chords which are not new,you can find it in "De svarta ryttarna" by Bo Hansson, The old man and the sea by Anekdoten and Jordrök by Änglagård.

A new Marillion album requires much higher production value compared to this.  Not bad but not exciting.

	This sounds like the review i've heard from 65 % of the people that listen to it only once. You'ld be amazed how many people who say these same things wind up becoming avid fans who claim to not be able to get enough of it. Put some headphones on and listen again a few more times. You may find that this becomes quite something after awhile. There are whole groups of people on marillion forums and facebook and all over the place that you see being underwhelmed by it at first. This is a GROWER!

	I've got to ask, The Shrubbery: are you on the promo team for the album or connected to the band in some way? I don't think I've ever seen you talk about anything else on here. It's not a bad thing if you are, mind, I just want to be clear on where you're coming from on this.

	No just a huge Marillion fan since Fugazi... I've said a lot about Marillion in my day on all sorts of forums, but they didn't really need a huge boost. People knew about them. This project just meant something to me, and i've been excited about it ever since. I'm not the only the one though. All of us in "Children of Edison" fan club and the facebook page are like this about the band. We're all pretty passionate I agree... but there's hundreds of us like this. It all struck a "chord" with us so to speak. I invite you if you are as much into them as we are... to go to Children of Edison on facebook and meet the crazy bunch of us. I understand the negatives that people say... the drum machine thing probably can turn people off in some songs but I also understood that pete and eric wanted to make this project completely their own... they wanted to write and produce and PLAY everything themselves including the drum tracks.. .and then have their friends play as special guests on it. I appreciate that after seeing pete play in bands for so many years, how much he probably wanted to just be the one (with Eric) to play everything. If I had been a musician for that long and always in a band scenario and just one day way wanted to rip on guitar or write a drum track or play keyboards... and not have to explain to everyone what was in my head so that when it was recorded it sounded nothing like what I was thinking. (I've been in a band or two myself... I can understand that). Anyway. Sorry for being so passionate all the time. This just means something to me and I know if I can get a few more people to listen to this, maybe they will have a large enough fan base to tour this album and continue on as a band. I promise however... i'm not the only one like this. 	Edison's Children is on Progstreaming all week long for those that haven't listened to it yet. ...and if you do... it's a grower... listen more than once and get yourself a set of good headphones and let it take you away...
