Topic: Transatlantic may record again in 2012 Posted: February 28 2012 at 10:23 |
From Neal's forum
The new issue of UK Magazine "Classic Rock Presents Prog" has not only a
Flying Colors track on the free cd, but also the results of the annual
Readers' Poll. Neal has numbers 3 & 4 Best DVD's for More is Never
Enough and Testimony 2 Live, Number 3 best Keyboard Player (behind
Jordan Rudess and Rick Wakeman) and Number 4 Prog Icon (behind Steven
Wilson, Peter Gabriel and Mike Portnoy.
There's also quite a glowing review of T2 Live, and some amazing news:
In
an interview with Mike Portnoy, he says that Transatlantic are trying
to find space in their schedules to record in 2012. I suggest we each
donate a Thursday afternoon.

That would be cool, but I wonder if they can come with something as good as "The Whirlwind" again. So far that's my favourite album. (Well, as a matter of fact, I haven't heard their first album, and the Whirlwind I've only heard through the live album "The Whirltour", but because of what I heard in that live album, I know I loved all of the Whirlwind - except the very last song, perhaps - while there were many bits from what I heard of songs from the first album I didn't like so much).

Agreed! Their first album is very solid too, All of the Above is absolutely stunning! I'm so pumped!!! Though I doubt anything will ever beat the Whirlwind, but who knows maybe...

This is good news! I wonder if they will make the double album length epic they joked about in the tour documentary)?

It may actually happen. They seem to top themselves from each previous album. I'm calling a double album, with at least an hour long epic on each disc. Or 4 roughly 35 minute songs, 2 on each disc.

Dude,
You need to get Transatlantic - SMPTe... and get the Roine mix as well.

As someone who doesn't always pay attention to lyrics, I never understood why a lot of people don't like the last track on The Whirlwind. It's a beautiful conclusion to one of the best composed pieces of music any of the members have been a part of. It's also one of the best finale's of Neal, Roine, Mike, etc. Up there with the finale to Garden of Dreams, Octavarium, Question Mark (?), and Duel With The Devil.

If this is true, this will make my year.
They have toured the last couple of time FIVE minutes from my home (sadly, I had not heard anything from them at that time). If they make an album and tour, I'll DEFINITELY be there this time. I'm calling a triple album.

So true!!!
And if they top it with a double album epic, I don't think my physical body could take it.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I care. I used to love Transatlantic, but when they became a mega-church praise band, I just couldn't come along for the ride.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't really care about religious lyrics. I just don't like the last song from The Whirlwind. Well, perhaps I like it just a little bit, but nothing nearly as great as all the rest of the album. I would rather they had not included it.

I'd feel like the music was unresolved if it ended after Is It Really Happening?. Would you prefer a different ending?
