Fabulous interview with Italy's greatest progressive compound!
Amazing job you did here, Andrea and Jim! Clap
I really loved how Don was willing to give this a second chance. But I don't have my hopes high. Besides, a third masterpiece would be too much for me to handle. Wink

Thanks Lizzy,  and I'm not holding my breath either.  Given how hard it was to track them down and put this together, I'd  say the chances of a QVL reunion are small.  I'd love it though!Smile

As promised, I would add any rarities forwarded by the band to this interview.  I have a few coming.

A fascinating read indeed. Very interesting!

I'm quite new to RPI, or Prog in general for that matter, but I would say that QVL is one of the finest outfits the italian prog scene of the 70's has to offer, well of what I have heard so far anyway. I prefer them even to PFM and Banco. Their self-titled debut is a prog masterpiece IMHO.

Edit: Strike that. It's not just a prog masterpiece. It's a masterpiece of art in general.

Thank you Audun.  QVL was the first Italian band I fell in love with.....that's why this interview was such a special treat for me.. ....I'd been trying to accomplish it for years......some of these guys were very hard to find and I still never could track down the guitarist, even with the luxury of the internet.

Just read the interview with Lax from 2004, which you mention in your 'QVL' review, Jim, and I must say it's a disgrace they haven't seen any money from their albums and that they've had nothing to say in the process of re-issuing them.

That he even had to pay money to get his hands on a copy of his own music is...well, I'm lost for words. I hope this isn't a common thing in the music business (which I know very little about I must admit).

I allways end up buing a copy of an album I like and listen to a lot (CDs mostly, since I like to collect them aswell, but that's another story), just so I know that the artist sees some money from me enjoying their music, but I now see that this isn't allways the case.

Shocking!

(I know I shouldn't be shocked or surprised about there being such cynicism in the music business as i know there are cynicism in any kind of business, but stil...)

Great interview of a great band, I have to admit that I had missed it until now so I'm glad for the last posts which put it back on top.
Il Tempio Della Gioia is one of my favourite RPI albums and the debut is also great, few bands managed to combine the classical with the symphonic rock so well. And they had such a great artwork!

Thanks so much Gerinski, I appreciate that!

And yes Audun, these guys are apparently not being compensated properly, which is a real shame.

Great interview Jim and Andrea! Clap  Since I have just started to listen to QVL's 1rst album recently I wanted to know more about them (since I love it) and found this interview.  Very insightful to them and that period.

"Then I got a job and all was over. The mistake I made was not insisting with music letting me be driven away by the pressures coming from my family."

Massimo's quote above from the interview was bitter sweet as it made me think that we may have all had similar thoughts on some decisions we have made in life (although not in the same realm that he did).  But I wonder how many other artists we may have not have heard from due to like circumstances...sobering.

This is quite a shame!

Anyway, excellent work on the interview!

Thanks Jim...Smile

Andrea and I were very pleased with this one, other than our regret at not finding Dino, one of the main songwriters.
