16 years old. Loved prog metal from 14, and for the last year, I've gone off metal and love prog rock now.

Ha because you rejected prog metal now you can feel special because lots of important people on a website think old stuff is better. Yay - social acceptance!

This thread could be an amazing chatroom for us under 18'ers.
Instead it's just become a non-metal *circlejerk*. It's such a huge shame, and liking both prog-metal and prog-rock is absolutely fine. Why do we have to force people to like one or the other? It's such a pointless exercise that breeds elitism.

For once I agree with you. I enjoy Prog, I enjoy some metal and also some of the inbetween...Prog-Metal. I would say that most members here do.
Worth a poll to find out.

This kind of thing is inevitable, most people our age don't actually think for themselves. Prog fans or not.

I don't care for the prog metals. A little metal in my prog, OK. But for our younger members it can be an opening and that's rather cool.

Then again are you absolutely certain that you just think that you think for yourself?

Great Idea since it's totally anonymous. It's better off if you don't allow commenting, just the poll itself.

This thread cannot and will not become a chat room for under 18'ers. We have the Shred Room and the Shed and those are all we permit.
Share your experiences here by all means, but for chat, go elsewhere.

'Chatroom' was the wrong word. A better one would have been 'musical discussion'. For specifically under 18s, to share views about prog with people in the same age group. That is all I meant

Loving prog metal isn't a shame too. Everyone can listen to what they want. My remark is that when I say prog most of the people I know name me prog metal band's names. I rather like bands like Genesis or Gentle Giants (to name a few, I won't make a list) that are smoother. Some consider me as a dinosaur or a freak just because I love prog. In fact, I don't care what you are listening to, I just like to see the discussions and to see who's like me and like progressive rock rather than progressive metal. I'd even like to see some who are prog metal fans and that explain us their point of view etc.

For me, 'prog' always was associated with King Crimson and Genesis, even when I haven't listened to them.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to share it. "Breeding Elitism" is just one of the consequences of posting on an internet forum where you are allowed to have freedom of thought and conscience.

If everyone is allowed to have an opinion and share it, it goes without question that everyone is allowed to say when they disagree with said opinions....
