But this is where it seems to get fuzzy: Was that baby a human being with rights while in the mother? |

I don't have anything to say about abortion, but I wanted to add my support to the whole kitten thing.

That's when my mind gets fuzzy too but I tend to believe that during the first weeks when it is totally dependent on the mother and is (this will sound bad) some sort of parasite, its rights are inferior to those of the mother. Once it achieves some sort of viability (don't push me too much here I am the first to recognize how nebulous this entire thing is to me) then it should be protected. I would never favor late abortions. But I have no problems with early ones, again used as last resource and not viewed as "just another contraceptive method" as was said before.

This is true. Unfortunately, language is imperfect, and describing complex concepts accurately is difficult. Usually ends in someone coining a new term.
And the my body? Not sure what that was supposed to be. I am trying to point out that a human mind in any situation is a human mind, and that the vessel, real or imagined (for all intents and purposes, they can be identical to the mind), does not affect it generally. Now, if you want to get into how it is specifically affected, we will have to specify developmental level, biochemistry, and so on. An adult brain in a jar hooked up to a computer to control a fish will enjoy a very different experience than an infant's brain, which, as it matures, will never learn speech, for example. I think that kind of issue is a bit beyond the scope of the discussion here, however.
But I like kittens too!
No, it is a "no" answer, not no answer.
OK, I understand giving advice about spontaneous abortion (a.k.a. miscarriage), but why would you not just spay the cat? Edited by Gamemako - January 29 2012 at 22:35 |

Then don't say human when you don't mean it silly.
Well I agree that a human mind is a human mind. I did not argue the contrary. However, I'm not willing to admit that the human brain does not affect the mind so some physical dependence does exist. I do not believe you are ignoring that though. I'll agree with the imprecise statement that a human mind is a human mind no matter the vessel.

I've got to go to bed now. Several dozen un-aborted youth will be awaiting my instruction tomorrow.

By the way I think there is a big prejudice, a big divide that is threatening all of us and that I see displayed in Pat's horrendous Nazi-level post.
"I'm a dog guy". Why can't we all get along? Some of us are dog AND cat guys... It IS possible. |

It's strange that I've never thought about puppy and kitty abortions before. |
