Is what he did a profession today?

Oh, wait – I’ve found one that might fit in: Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet?

Sh*t – he was born in Pennsylvania and died in Connecticut. And I can’t find any curry dishes in Hartford.

James apparently has no idea how many curry dishes there are. I discussed it with our chef today, and he could name 37 without having to look anything up. he said there were definitely many more though, even counting the traditional ones only. none of those he named were useful in any way, by the way

Everyone (in theory) can do this profession.  There's been millions of people with this profession over the years.  Most people use the skill for non professional purposes every single day.

The curry dish is English and likely originated over here too.  The first part of the city where he died, starts with this word.  The second half is the Bulgarian word for sea.

It's also where Jody lives.

The county in which that city is located is the same state in which he was born.

That is indeed correct.

Which means he was born in Maryland.

Ah ha!

Well done, Jean!

The next clue would have been that he was an Episcopalian.

Apologies about the perhaps misleading bit about the arts.  I consider writing/poetry as a form of art myself.  I wasn't sure if everyone else did or not.

certainly; writing poems is an art form.

now this one will either be extremely easy or extremely difficult: fictional.

oh, and I will give a hint: a quest

I should have thought of him earlier. he is of course a household name in the USA

aha. now we come to the point where we will see whether it is difficult or easy. the character is not male, and it is not female either.

hint: one of the 5 on the quest is grumpy.
