Picked this up off his facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Paul-Menel/123117397706360 - originally posted 5th Jan: "Meanwhile, returning from planet nostalgia for a sec the PMB album will be mastered on January 9th. Now featuring not just the original ten songs Ian and myself recorded (snippets of which we myspaced yonks ago), but new, shiny, still-in- their- wrappers-type songs never before heard in Christendom! Or even Nottingham for that matter".
It's taken a while, but hopefully not much longer to wait now. Samples of some of them are at: http://www.myspace.com/paulmenel, but samples (ie excerpts) is all that they are at the moment.

Interesting news. Very good lyricist and did a good job in IQ all those years ago.

And the good news is that Paul has posted the whole of his new album, 'In To Insignificance I Will Pale' on soundcloud.com: http://soundcloud.com/paulmenelband/sets - seventeen tracks, an hour and four minutes of music, and well worth a listen for anyone who likes the softer more melodic side of prog. Paul has now announced on facebook that work on his new album is almost complete, and he hopes to have further news for us  soon...  Cool

In the meantime he has overhauled the Paul Menel Soundcloud page, so head over to https://soundcloud.com/#paul-menel-essentials to hear a selection of new material and remixes to whet your appetite for the forthcoming release.

The following text, taken from the above soundcloud link, is the latest information about his current band:

"Paul Menel & The Essentials are a three man band. The essential members of the band are of course:

Paul Menel - Main songwriter, Vocalist, Guitarist
Steven Swift - Bassist
Tim Churchman - Drummer

Other musicians feature on certain tracks from our upcoming album but they aren't 'essential' members of the band. They are employed as session and guest musicians.

All tracks and the upcoming album recorded, mixed and mastered by Gavin Monaghan at the Magic Garden recording studio in Wolverhampton".

Edit: Paul was rejected for inclusion on PA by the Neo Prog team on the basis of his first full solo album 'Into Insignificance I Will Pale': http://progfreak.com/Paul-Menel-156212.html?path=pa/recent, and I guess I shouldn't really have posted this topic in a part of the forum which is only for artists who are already featured here, but I guess he will be eligible for another evaluation once the new material is released. Embarrassed

His debut album is not prog but I still like it and well get the second as well. The appeal of Paul's music is his lyrics. Yep it is a bit Duran Duran , I hadn't previously thought of that but it is probably a fair reference point.
