Oh, actually, one of them kind of is.

It's not his main field though.

Although it probably won't help, he was also a character (as himself) in a one-off novel.

Was he an engineer?
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing

He was not a musician.  He was a form of engineer though.

Hey, if I’ not mistaken, it’s another hunchback:

Charles Proteus Steinmetz!
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing

I guess you are right, and if your choice is "male, fictional" then I will directly go for Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notres-Dame. Wink

No, his surname was Germanic.

Whoops, I was replying to s_e when my parents called and then I got interrupted by my mate getting in from work...

So the reply above is no not required.

Ref, you're amazing.  That is indeed who it is.

I found him the other day whilst finding Friede's hunchback.  How did you get him from so few clues?

Friede, from Wikipedia "He also serves as a major character in Starling Lawrence's The Lightning Keeper.[7]"

I'm not sure if an induction furnace is classed as metallurgical or not.  That was one of his many patents.

Interesting fellow by the way.  I didn't even get to give you the clue about his middle name being a character from The Odyssey.

German-born American engineer did the trick. There are quite a few hits on Wernher von Braun, of course, but Steinmetz is also on the first page.

This one is quite hard, I think:
Fictious, male

(Not Quasimodo)
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing

"Proteus" is a God who is known for being able to appear in many forms. In German the word "Proteusnatur" signifies a person who changes his opinions, behavior or appearance all the time..

Is he an earth-based creature?

What I mean by that is: is he based on an earth based animal/mammal?

According to his Wiki entry: Proteus was a wise hunchbacked character from the Odyssey who knew many secrets and he felt it suited him.
