A clue: he anglicised his first name upon settling in the USA and also assumed a middle name (although he did have 2 middle names by birth).  His surname remained the same.

I guess you could get in trouble due to your political views in a lot of countries at the time. I’ll try something different: Did he found a company in the USA?

Not as far as am I aware.

Oh and although he was not a politician, he was a President of several American organisations and boards in the US City he lived in.

Plus he had political views back in his birth country.  He was never actually a politician though.

Not that I am aware of.

He was known for his scientific endeavours even though he's not really called a scientist in the usual sense.

Neither of those two but the country borders both of those countries.

It borders both Hungary and France? Then there must be something wrong with my map.

James probably uses an old map on which Hungary still belongs to Austria. LOL It would be Italy, Switzerland or Germany then.

Then I guess he must be of German or Austrian origin. I cannot imagine someone from Switzerland getting in trouble for political reasons.

Oops, I completely forgot Hungary doesn't border it.  My bad.

It is one of either Germany and Austria though.  To give you a hint, the city he was born in is now in Poland but was not at the time of his birth and he was not a Polish speaker as far as I know.

Oh and no, he was not a psychoanalyst.

I don't have access to his 200+ patents but the important ones that are listed don't seem to show any in that field.
