Here's an album that deserves a bit more attention than it's getting.....

Jacula Rock Progressivo Italiano

3 stars I have to admit that I find what Antonio Bartoccetti is doing in Jacula and Antonius Rex quite difficult to describe and then translate into reviews. I got this album as a promo CD long time ago and that means I have to review it. I should have reviewed this album many months ago, in fact.

This is Jacula's comeback album and their third album since 1969. A father and son album it is too with the son doing the tangents. On this album Antonio's blues guitars sometimes floats over some house rhythms laid down by Florian Gormann on drums and his son Rexanthony on keyboards and samples. Then we also finds some ambient pianos with female spoken words from Blacklady floating over it. The rest is mostly orchestral ambient soundscapes and some disturbing female screams.

The music here is pretty good. The orchestral soundscapes laid down by Rexanthony is very good. Overall, this is a good album from a genre I do not find particular interesting. But I like this album.

3 stars

Lizzy, another album for your classical-inspired list would be Banco's "di terra"....some reviewers compare it to Stravinsky.  There is an experimental jazzy component to it, but you might dig the orchestra.

Thaaaaaaaaaanks! I took a peek and huzzah for short instrumental albums! I've been losing my patience with 70+ minute albums lately, so hopefully this will be a breath of fresh air. Big smile

Essential truth, Lizzy. Most of the seventies RPI albums are less than 39 minutes and it's a bless. The vinyl format was the right one. You can't ask a normal guy to have a close conversation with a group of inspired musicians an hour and half ! Lamp

I guess it's the reason why I love RPI, I easily get bored with an album above 1hr.
good point.

Listened to LA MASCERA DI CERA's debut on the way home tonight as the wind blew hard and the snow came down.It was a cool trip in the dark on that lonely, icy and winding road, especially with the soundtrack playing loudly in my warm vehicle.
For myself this band and NUOVA ERA are two of my favourite modern RPI bands and the fact each has put out 4 studio albums doesn't hurt either.

^ They really kept the late 1990s and early 2000s going!  Love them both.  I especially love Nuova Era's third and fourth albums and La Maschera's first three.

Hey John, do you have Lagartija's new one yet?

I like this album, too Pierre.  But their album "Sacrificio" is even better.

They pack a lot of punch into an album, don't they?  There's not a wasted second.

Yes! It's amazing - probably my all time fav RPI album (at this point in my collecting) narrowing edging out QVL with The Time of Joy.

I don't know of a dedicated single location to view all new issues, I just watch the various vendors sites to see what they are doing.  I'm not the most organized on this topic, I just sort of follow my musical whims by chance.  But I know you can subscribe to email updates from places like BTF and they will send you emails showing new goodies as soon as they are available.
