A very poor year for such thing, maybe?

Not really, I am just mostly uninterested in prog.

Shave your head and move to Germany.

I would say that you should try Bilateral from Leprous, but it may have been something Old Pat would have liked;  I'm not sure if New Pat will like it or not.  http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=82985&KW=leprous&PID=4359533#4359533

Now I'm the New New Pat and you never know.  Grace for Drowning made my top 5, so anything's possible.

These are all the bands that released albums in 2011 that I purchased. All are at least 3 stars (most are 4, a few are 5)

Neal Morse
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones
Symphony X
Yes
Karmakanic
Dream Theater
Umphrey's McGee
Opeth
Steven Wilson
The Tangent

Derek Sherinian
Pain of Salvation
Mastodon
Joshua Redman
Discipline

I think all of these can be classified as stuff I'm not interested in, or already have.

I would be interested to hear the Sherinian album.

Thanks man.

Oh yeah, that was a good one. The new Mastodon album is cool too but I have no idea if you'd like it.

I also second Bilateral for good 2011 prog metal.

Thanks Marco.  Not sure if I would love Mastodon but I'll check out the others.

@Pat: I'm pretty sure you'll love the Make a Rising EP and Charts and Maps.

Charts and Maps have their album up on bandcamp, and the Make a Rising EP is a free download.

No problem. I streamed the Sherinian album right before it came out. It seemed to be more jazz and blue-rock than his previous releases, mixed in with prog-metal and jazz-fusion of course.

Man, I seriously bought somewhere between four or five dozen new releases this year, and there's still a good dozen or two I need to hear.  2011 was a killer year for music @_@

For most of the 2011 releases I've heard, I liked them for a moment and then almost immediately stopped liking them.

Well, a lot of this year's list for me is metal.  And I think the only album I heard this year that I genuinely didn't like was the new dredg album.  Most everything I heard this year I would give at least three stars to.
