two iconic and similar types of caricatures in two of the earliest modern fantasy book-series the past century both written by two very iconic writers Tolkien and Jansson. the first Moomin book came 10 years after the Hobbit both sparked huge franchises, it have been made over 10 television or puppet shows about moomintrolls and the life in moomin valley. it have  been made a gigantic blockbuster movie about Hobbits and the Middle Earth. both worlds th moomin world and the hobbit world are fantastical worlds inhabited by fantastical creators

Well, we put a lot of effort into keeping trolls out of the PA.

The Moomins (SwedishMumintroll) are the central characters in a series of booksand a comic strip by Swedish-Finn illustrator and writer Tove Jansson, originally published in Swedish by Schildts[2] in Finland. They are a family of trolls who are white and roundish, with large snouts that make them resemble hippopotamuses. The carefree and adventurous family live in their house in Moominvalley, in the forests of Finland, though in the past their temporary residences have included alighthouse and a theatre. They have many adventures along with their various friends.

In all, nine books were released in the series, with five picture books and a comic strip being released between 1945 and 1993.

The Moomins have since been the basis for numerous television series, films and even a theme park called Moomin World in NaantaliFinland.

Rumours of teh Snowie/Groke eating people are unfounded, but all Moomins are trolls.

I voted for the Moomins, not only for the Moomin family, but also for other great characters like Snufkin and Little My. The Groke is really creepy, especially in Pappan och havet ("Moominpappa at sea") where she falls in love with the Moomintroll. But there’s one thing I don’t like with the English titles: They all contain the word "Moomin", which they don’t do in Swedish. It’s like a Norwegian or Swedish translation of C.S. Lewis’ books would include the word "Narnia" in all the titles. Two examples: Farlig midsommar ("Dangerous Midsummer") is Moominsummer Madness in English, and Trollkarlens hatt ("The Sorcerer’s Hat") is, believe it or not, Finn Family Moomintroll. Confused

I'm American and I've only learned about the Moomins via listening to Ritual.  Presumably they're less obscure in Europe?

I thought they were well known outside Europe as well. At least I know they’re loved by Japanese people.

Don't know much about moomins. and hobbits are awesome. Can't wait to see the movie in about a year.
