I like ELP a lot. Better than most of the stuff on the top 100. That said, they aren't quite as good as Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd.... They are corny, yes, they are half-baked, yes, but they do some great stuff.
I particularly like their albums Emerson Lake & Powell and Black Moon. Black Moon they almost seem serious. Edited by RoyFairbank - December 19 2011 at 14:59 |

BSS should definetly be in the top 100. Karn Evil 9 is phenomenal.

Most people consider their albums to be very good and even ground breaking, but nowhere near as many people consider them to be one of the all time great bands in the way that Yes, Genesis, Krimson, Tull, Floyd and Rush are.

Yes, ELP should be there over Floyd, Tull, at least their first cd. He doesn't surprise me that their not on that list considering all the negative criticism over their bombastic style. I give more importance to their 4 stars ratings for the first 4 albums.

I'm surprised there isn't any ELP in the list, but that's the way the reviews have gone. ELP maybe have relatively few fans here compared to Genesis and Yes. That's no ones fault. It's just the way it is.
It took me along time to warm to ELP. Maybe now I have, I should pull my finger out and review all their albums... Let's have an ELP bomb. Everyone review BSS and give it five stars (regardless of what you may really think about it) That way they'll have an album in the top 100, and we can avoid people moaning about it in the future.. Edit: I've been listening to Trilogy in the car over the weekend. That's the album that should be in the top 100, imo! Edited by Blacksword - December 19 2011 at 15:49 |

So ELP is such an awesomely great band that they should be faked up into a higher ranking than the algorithm would be placing them in?

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

ELP-a definitive, trend-setting, and groundbreaking prog band.
And they inspired so many other groups. |

......and its a list of results from reviewers...so really who cares, when I do look at the review page I only read the commentary. The number rating system means horse dung to me.

I'm not a big ELP fan but this kind of surprising.
If you filter down to Symph only they come in at 18th, 25th, 38th & 39th. That feels about right to me but what the F do I know? |

I guess ELP aren't that easy to get in to, Emerson can be ... overwhelming, to say the least, which is not something everyone (including true progheads, whatever that may be) can appreciate.

I respect ELP a lot, they are an iconic band that represents a high point in the history of Symphonic Prog, but not a real fan of them. I believe they reached their peak too soon with Trilogy and BSS and then IMO everything was downhill, with a couple of good albums. But surely they did very good stuff, and Black Moon is an excellent album that gave me hopes for a re-birth that never happened. Iván |
