I'd like to highly recommend the band 'Information' and their only, self-titled Album from 1981. Unfortunately I found no hints for a recent release, CD or other, so it's a bit of a search task for you, but I can assure you it's worth the effort. I bought the original LP (RCA PL28483) back then and til today it's one of my Prog-favourites. The band-members are three well known european jazz and fusion musicians, as there are:
Joachim Kühn (keys), George Kochbeck (keys, voc) and Mark Nauseef (perc) The music is real Prog, powerful and innovative, with raw vocals and many rock, jazz and fusion influences. Listening to this kind of hard-rockjazz-prog it' s hard to believe that, no matter what your ears might tell you, no-one plays guitar or bass on this album. It' s all keyboards and distorted synths! For friends of BrandX, U.K., Magma |

I highly recommend checking out this band from Sydney, Australia:
"Pirate" They have a demo for free download on www.birdsrobe.bandcamp.com and their new EP and album are excellent. For fans of The Mars Volta, Secret Chiefs 3, PVT and old-school King Crimson! Phenomenal and crazy, lots of fun to listen to. Mike |

I recommend Stephen Rippy and Kevin McMullan's works for Age of Mythology Soundtrack. Some tracks are boring, but some others are really a pleasure to listen to.
They're all downloadable here: http://www.microsoft.com/games/ageofmythology/soundtrack.aspx |

Hello.
I recommend this. It's a musical debut of Eastern European performance artist Raoul Kurvitz. He has a whole album coming out at September 30th which will also feature original material.

for those who like intsrumental math/post rock....instrumental......try out the recent mini album by "collection of colonies of bees"....superb stuff......mostly nice rocky grooves with smart drumming....and the odd bit of thart repetitve steve reich/philip glass classical vibe.
last year they did an album with Bon Iver under the name of Volcano Choir if that helps.....that was like the last two talk talk albums meets contempary classical.....a great hidden gem. |

Devil Doll. They're on the archives, but seldom known, haven't heard much like them before, but thought I might as well spread the word about them. after all, how can you say no to a band which has three (or four if you consider Dies Irae one song) one song albums in their discography?

I humbly recommend my band, The ANABASIS, which features Spock's Beard's Ryo Okumoto on keyboards.
We've just released our debut album, "Back From Being Gone" on 10t Records. We were awarded a 4-star review by Tommy Hash at Ytsejam.com Fans of harder-edged prog will enjoy it. The best description I've seen online is we sound like "Transatlantic with balls" You can stream the entire album for free and it's now available for immediate purchase. To stream and/or purchase, just visit our official website here: http://www.theanabasisproject.com Edited by KirksNoseHair - November 11 2011 at 15:45 |

I'd like to recommend my own band Caligula's Horse, who have just released a CD version of our album "Moments From Ephemeral City". It's got some great reviews on this site, and it should appeal to fans of Devin Townsend, Frost*, Opeth and perhaps Porcupine Tree. Check us out guys!

I want to recommend a couple of groups here for people to check out.
Edison's Children - www.edisonschildren.com - is a new project by Pete Trewavas from Marillion and his mate Eric Blackwood. i downloaded it when it went on sale last week, and it is such an amazing musical art piece. Its a concept album and a bloody good one. I've also ordered the cd too (which is something I only save for select albums which meet my high benchmark) because this is something I would not want to lose because of a hard drive crash. Sun Domingo as well - www.sundomingo.com is a band that I became aware of at the Marillion Convention in Montreal in April of this year. They did a surprise gig in a pub there and even had Steve Hogarth turn up to do one of the numbers. They are in Holland right now touring and will be opening for Marillion in the Christmas shows at the end of the month (Man would I love to go and see that line up) and they are also heading to Canada in December for a couple of gigs too. I'm going to get to see them on the 9th December at the Tranzac club in Toronto - they are playing their own album Songs For End Times, and also playing Dark Side Of the Moon all the way though as well - seriously cool and I am very excited to see it. IMHO these guys won;t be able to do small gigs for much longer, and as a fan it will always be cool to be able to say to my friends that "I was there when.." |

I like "dangerously unheard of" - might steal that for myself! Interesting sound they've got. By the way, I don't see 'The Water is Wide Variations' in your top albums list - what on earth could be the reason for such an oversight?!

Animal Collective - Anyone who knows the name immediately thinks of indie band weirdness and shudders. But the albums Feels, Merriweather Post Pavilion and Fall Be Kind are modern art rock at it's most melodic.
Akira Yamaoka - Does the soundtracks for the Silent Hill video games. Check out the 2nd and 3rd OSTs for some haunting ambient textures and goth rock. Minus the Bear - They aren't as dense or thought-provoking as some newer bands on PA but I think fans of Andrew Latimer's guitar tone, Radiohead's grooves and Weezer's silly lyrics would like them. BTW that's a terrible description, just sample them on amazon or itunes. |

It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.

Right now I've been listening to Genesis, Devo, and They Might Be Giants. Eventhough the latter aren't very prog, they still rock.
