I just noticed that they are in the archives. It seems almost every band is now in the archives.

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
A brilliant folk album with sweet sweet melodies. |

I still need to listen that entirely and get into it, I loved the debut, but this one is having a bit of a trouble with me.

Number 1: The Whoopass Girls - The Whoopass Girls (Highschool emo/punk/skram/pop) -Just a couple of high school kids making honest as hell music, using some really wonderful song structures/style and creating pretty damn unique music. Super depressing/nostalgic/melancholic. Number 2: Touche Amore - Parting The Sea Between Brightness and Me (hardcore punk) -20 minutes of amazing non-stop intense hardcore; killer lyrics, climaxes and further demonstration of the band's uncanny ability to develop solid themes within tiny musical moments. Number 3: Defeater - Empty Days and Sleepless Nights (Hardcore, concept album) -Heartbreaking concept, stunning vocal delivery, probably one of the best drummers in modern hardcore. Killer lyrics too. Number 4: Old Gray - Do I Dare Disturb The Universe (midwest emo/spoken word/proggy post-hardcore) -Insane emotional input from the band (sounds like they're right in the moment for every second of the EP) and amazing song writing.
Number 5: (progressive post-hardcore/hardcore) -Some of their best tracks ever. Once again demonstrates their uncanny ability to introduce a story, and 5 minutes later crush you at the conclusion.
Honorable mentions: The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Belong(shoegaze/pop) -Sounds like the lovechild of The Smiths and The Cure. Fun and somewhat intense at the same time too.Our Sunday Affairs - Smiles From Next Year (punk/twinkly emo) -Amazing lyricism, brilliant guitar work and a band who can create dense song, fulfilling strong structures in tiny lengths. (djent/hardcore/metalcore) -Amazing Australian band who makes the most solid mix of djent and hardcore I've probably ever heard. |

Dan Mangan - Oh Fortune
(This one could very easily become a favourite from Dan Mangan. Still haven't given it many listens but so far I'm REALLY into it, maybe even more than his previous albums, which I also think are spectacular.) Matthew Good - Lights of Endangered Species (Not my favourite Matt Good album, but still great, I'll definitely be listening to it for awhile.) City and Colour - Little Hell And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - Tao of The Dead (Probably my favourite Trail of Dead album.) Explosions In The Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care Adele - 21 Still Haven't gotten around to listening to Night of Hunters, but everyone I know that has listened to it says it's great and I'm definitely a fan of Tori Amos, so that will probably make my list when I get to it. < ="text/" ="" ="/B1D671CF-E532-4481-99AA-19F420D90332etdefender/huidhui.js?0=0&0=0&0=0"> |

I actually discovered them through a reference on the PA forums when I was in the mood for some heavy prog bands with female vocalists. I liked their first album well enough that I picked the new one up as soon as it came out. They have a great sound, IMO. ![]() |

Svin - Heimat - a Danish fussion between Jazz, Metal and more - very interesting to any Fussion lover
Check it out here : http://www.myspace.com/svinband
Might even be a cool addition to our fussion section, opening the genre a bit !

I'm ambivalent about this album- too jazzy at times, but it does have its shiny moments of brilliance. Their newer tracks (which I heard from their YouTube channel) are really REALLY good. I literally had to see which albums I've purchased this year are from 2011 (Probably my most productive year yet). I can't say I pay attention to the album's year much... Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut: My favorite is probably Death Grips' "Exmilitary"- experimental, genius hip-hop (with Zach Hill). Another vote for La Disputes' "Wildlife"- stirring and disturbing. Three Trapped Tigers "Route One Or Die"- Math/Noise Rock. The album took a while to grow on me- but trust me it's a good one. William D. Drake "The Rising Of The Lights"- Cardiacs' ex-keyboard player with a psychedelic pop treat. Some memorable compositions and clever instrumentation. Deerhoof "Deerhoof Vs. Evil"- These guys are on Progarchives but whether they're strictly-speaking "prog" is debatable. A really really good album. And of course North Sea Radio Orchestra "I A Moon"- Also on PA. But no. They're not prog. They're a quality psychedelic chamber pop group. Their album is quite almost perfect. Ummmm.... There's probably more... These are the ones that came to mind that I thought were from 2011. |

Wow, think I'll have to add this to my non-prog list of 2011: Last, by The Unthanks. Beautiful stuff.
Plus, it includes this little ditty (yes, it's that "Starless" - and it's wonderful):

Those two will be on mine too, maybe the Anne Guthrie after a couple of more listens. Still got a whole bunch of stuff to listening to (and a big package in the mail) before thinking about assorting lists. Picked up The Roots latest last week, really not digging it yet. Outside EAI, Modern Composition, spinning Random Axe's self titled a whole deal. |
