Or maybe it was the story of a little guy who overcame things to become the hero.  Of course our academics can never come up with a positive spin.  Must create a victim.

Giuliani’s reading is really poor. I quote from the article:

But Rudolph has a happy ending, you may say. Santa realizes the reindeer's glowing red nose can actually guide his sleigh through a Christmas night snowstorm. Everyone applauds. End of story, right?

Not so fast, says Giuliani. "The message to disabled children is we will not accept you as you are, but only if you can do something extraordinary," he said.

This clearly shows that he has to change the end of the story so it fits with his reading. Rudolph doesn’t do anything extraordinary, he’s actually born with the nose that saves the day in the end – so he’s accepted for who he is rather than what he does.

On the other hand, this is not a story about bullying at all. It’s about a boy being oppressed by a tyrannic father. The nose is, of course, a metaphor for his penis. In the end the boy dethrones ("kills") his father and … uh … makes love to his mother. Go tell your children that! LOL

That article fills me with a strange desire to give Giuliani a wedgie and then stuff him into a locker.

Hug

And of course all academics must be tarred and feathered with what one particular moron did.  He's trying to sell books and apparently rather stupid.  I'm all for giving him a wedgie, but shoving in him a locker is going too far.

I have to go against the grain here and say no, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is bullsh*t. You are right that he was born with his physics-defying nose, so it doesn't count as an extraordinary act of heroism. However, the message is still fundamentally that people will not accept you if you are different unless you prove yourself useful to them. And that is not okay just because we've been subjected to it for 60 years.

And it's a terrible song, anyway, and the words were written for a department store's coloring book so they print their own and save money, spirit of Christmas my ass. AND ANOTHER THING, Baby It's Cold Outside is about a guy pressuring his unwilling girlfriend into having sex, or perhaps even raping her ("say what's in this drink"), why is this okay? And Santa Baby is encouraging women to use their sexuality to gain material things. And why the hell was  the father wearing a Santa outfit if they thought the kid was asleep? And It's Raining Men is Cyndi Lauper singing about bukkake on the radio but that's not really relevant.
