How the hell did you get Tolkein from that? LOL  I've never heard of that woman either...

Annie Liebowitz?

Don't think she's politically active though.

someone_else writes "invisible" clues in his answers. Go to one of his posts and select all. Then you will find:

- Foolhardy
- Fighting to turn no man’s land into a common ground
- Four cups of tea at Barrow’s
- A fountain of flowers
- Bird and baby
- To Lauterbrunnen and back again
- Hwæt
- 25 times 107 in outer space

There were especially two of these clues that led me to Tolkien: "Bird and baby" refers to the pub Eagle and Child in Oxford where Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and other friends met regularly. "Lauterbrunnen" in Switzerland (hence my question "Was he Swiss?") provided the pictorial model for Tolkien’s sketches and watercolours of the fictitious valley of Rivendell.

No, it’s not Annie Liebowitz.

No, it’s not Annie Liebowitz.

I'll explain the other clues here:
- Foolhardy: The meaning of the name "Tolkien".
- Fighting to turn no man's land into a common ground: refers to the last line of the IQ song "Common Ground" about the Battle of the Somme, in which Tolkien participated.
- Four cups of tea at Barrow's: Tolkien formed the society T.C.B.S. (Tea Club and Barrovian Society) with three of his friends. They loved to drink tea at Barrow's Stores in Birmingham.
- A fountain of flowers: Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
- Hwæt: Tolkien liked to declaim the opening lines of the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf which started with this cry.
- 25 times 107 is 2675, the number of the asteroid named after Tolkien.

One more remark about the Lauterbrunnen-hint. A hike from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen in 1911 formed the inspiration for Bilbo's journey. Hence the addition "and back again".
