I can bet everything that the least "hard" act on the list will get the award, so it's between Foo Fighters and Sum 41. As Foo Fighters are more popular, they will win. At least they have eventually released a few enjoyable songs.

Too bad they can't be given nominated for a such like A Change of Seasons or Metropolis pt 1. Those are magical beyond words. But nevertheless On the backs of Angels was still a nice DT tune.

We can save those for real prog awards or something.

I'm not a fan, nor a hater, but hats off to them all the same. If not hats off at least a smiley beer toast or whatever the hell that is. The one thing you can count on is that if a prog artist gets an award for something it wont be for anything prog.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I consider being nominated for a Grammy an insult.

Unless it's one of those technical categories award, like Best Recording Engineer.

Just one example - After seeing Santana get multiple Grammys for the pop Supernatural and were ignored for far better high quality recordings, getting a grammy or even being nominated may be considered an insult and a slight on the recording nominated.
If there was a prog catagory, Asia would win all the time

Like to add, I supported Jethro Tull winning over Metallica, Crest of a Knave was very close to Led Zepplin stuff, while Justice for All borded on punk

Even those kind of categories are given only based on popularity...

I think most people that are into any kind of rock music, are at least aware of Dream Theater. They're much more well known than Porcupine Tree or The Mars Volta in terms of modern bands.

The Mars Volta won the best hard rock/metal grammy in 2009 for "Wax Simulacra." Why isn't there a grammy for Prog? |
Silly goose.....Prog can't win a grammy, only artists can win a grammy.
I hope Dream Theater wins the award, sure its not their best. But the album has been their best charting album and that is what has gotten them on the ballot and the Grammy committee attention.
I like Dream Theater

I even think that DT's nominated song is better than Mastodon's Curl of the Burl. While the latter is good, it's nowhere near the best tracks on the album.
