Nice one I like your recent approach John - getting back to those classic albums. I mean we get pretty obscure from time to time in here (maybe the only places for obscure material these days are those genre appreciation threads such as RPI, Zeuhl and this one), but it sure is nice to get back to some albums that you know like the back of your hand, but just haven´t gotten around to play for the better part of a year. I have that with Tago Mago actually, so I´m putting that on, since we´re talking about Can.

It's getting colder, and I'm feeling like some electric kraut sounds. Listening to a lot of Popol Vuh, and Faust. Want to get into Tangerine Dream.

He's right, there really is no comparison. Have you tried Omar Rodriquez-Lopez' collaboration with Damo Suzuki? It'd probably be right up your alley.

Neu! are somewhat similar to Can at times. Silver Apples are not on PA but they sound like an influence on Can and possibly other Kraut bands...

I'll support the nomination for Cul De Sac, they even made a full album with Damo (their last).





The whole of the early post rock movement was strongly influenced by Krautrock and Can.



Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta has this track on one of his early solo albums...



... which he later reworked with Damo and rereleased it as an EP:




Nu & Apa Neagră are a Romanian band more on the Yatha Sidhra / Popol Vuh side of Kraut who recently collaborated with Damo. I hope they recorded something.

I need to  get me some CIRCLE. There was a Free Jazz band named CIRCLE from the early seventies with some heavyweights playing on it like Chick Corea and Dave Holland i believe.But yeah i need some Finnish CIRCLE.

I really love the naive feel of this record( thanks John), the whole thing feels like sitting on the floor in some obscure studio in Germany during the 70s. With thick weed smoke everywhere and people lying all over you - the sounds of the music just feel honest and live - like they had no real need for engineers or other silly things. It´s "right in the moment" music and it´s heartfelt - and certainly floats my boat.

Always nice to see someone new who´s into Krautrock - we are after all not the biggest of crowds...
As a matter of fact, I am listening to Birth Control´s Plastic People at the moment, but would think they were more of a Heavy prog band( don´t worry, when you´ve been here for a while - you´ll start talking with stickers applied to your words, but anyhow what matters is the music) Eloy´s 3 first albums I myself consider very close to the Krautrock tradition, and I especially like Inside and Floating for their - well yeah floating texture and psychedelic tendencies. After that they moved into those Floydian soundscapes combining symphonic with psych, and quite well too, but my faves have always been those 2 gems. Just my preference though

BTW I don´t personally have that compilation but just checked out what artists are featured on there, and if you´re looking to go get some albums from the bands, then out of those mentioned on the front cover: Grobschnitt, Embryo, Jane and Schulze are probably the ones that get closest to Kraut on some albums. (Can, LA Düsseldorf, Eroc - these are all tagged as Kraut here at PA and comes highly recommended) Grobschnitt´s Solar Music Live, The first 4 or 5 albums by Embryo are Kraut to me personally, Jane´s Gravedigger contains a 20 min floating gem which comes very close to the genre, and Schulze - although not entirely rock still manages to conjure up some pretty experimental and trippy music that´ll send you packing in the milkyway. Frumpy I don´t know actually, but John(Mellotron Storm) probably knows them
I´m sorry if this sounds a bit weird, but outside this website there´s a lot of people and labels naming everything German from the 70s Krautrock, but that is not how we roll up in here It´s a cosmische thing based a lot around improv, psychedelia and the trip of the music. Many of the artists such as Wallenstein and Lucifer´s Friend were more heavy rocking bands that had little to do with the scene.
Alright - I´m sorry if I came across as some kind of stuck up connoisseur, that was not my intentions though
Again - welcome to the site, I hope you´ll visit us here in the Krautrock Space from time to time.
