I was seriously scared of anything harder than the one advanced functioning and modeling class that I took, which wasn't even really that bad but I was lazy.

My teacher told me something similar, but I told him that I had no interest in math. He was an awesome guy though. We had conversations about being sad because he previously had meningitis or something.

Calculus makes physics so much easier because you can derive mos of the equations on the fly, so it cuts down on the rote memorization.
