Mekanik Destructiw Komandoh - The Band

I don't have any of their albums, but havee come across them.  I like it, actually.

Berlin, 1979-1983

MDK aka Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh (called after Magma's [eponymous album) is one of the more prolific bands from Berlin, having released two (!) albums: Der Weg zum Frieden ("They Path to Peace")  in 1981 and Die Kriegserklärung ("Declaration of War") in 1982, but their best-known release is the Berlin EP of 1983. From what I know, they played an interesting kind of energetic, raw post-punk with intelligent/ironic lyrics centered on violence.

There's also a New Wave band from the same time called Mekanik Kommando, which I also like.

Rock critic Chuck Eddy mentions them in his book Stairway To Hell.  He reviewed the Berlin EP thusly:

If these Krauts ain't Nazis, how come they close with that goose-stepping bootmarch?  Don't ask me, 'cause the only decodable English is when Volker Hauptvogel yells "human being" at the end of "Werwolf" (they spell different over there), and the German's a laugh - gratingly ceremonial tragicomic tongue twisters that for all I know just mean today's Volker's birthday and he's jumpy with good will.  He cackles his consonants like a banshee as Georg Keller guitars ditto and saxist Stephan Schwietzke bops freestyle over Uli Radike's syndrums (or some organic substitutes called schlagzeugs that sound like 'em), and the more romantically overwrought it all gets, the better: "Die Babies Von Heute" organ-grinds its rhythm like Kurt Weill, "Der Tag Schlägt Zu" is a dirge that goes boom.  If it weren't so foreign, I'd probably donate it to the Salvation Army.  But no two ways about it, those monikers kill.  Like, I understand why "Uli" 's pronounced "U-li" and "Georg" "Gee-orgh" and "Volker" "Woltz-kär", but how come Edgar Domin (on bass) wants us to call him "Zee-tha-i"??

(Chuck's writing style is, shall we say, unique.  And I doubt he's ever heard of Magma.)
