When Mecano released its song "Aire", wasn't in a kind of prog trend? I ask because is the only song i know from Mecano that can be classified as prog, but don't know too much of its early work...
Please forgive me for my crappy english!

Even though I like some Mecano early works like "Barco a Venus", I never saw a single song from them remotely close to prog'.

They are closer to New Wave bands like OMD or similars but no relation with prog'.

I considered them very innovative and love Ana Torroja's voice (Somehow similar to Jon Anderson's, but sounds great in a woman) until I heard that crap called Hawaii - Bombay, Holy sh!t the worst music and lyrics I ever found.

Yes, they are just a pop band. Anyway I read that Cano brothers were fond of progressive rock, Nacho Cano's favourite album was The Lamb Lies Down On Brodway (Genesis).

No, no, NO!!!!!

Please, let us keep Mecano as far of this place as we can!

For non - spanish or south american readers, just say you're quite lucky: i wish i've never heard them, but they were the biggest selling spanish pop act in the eighties. Two megalomaniac guys and a steadily uncompetent female singer making annoying bubblegum ballads. And now they've got their own stage play with their songs in it... Just like Abba.

(However, their first LP was cool)

The funier thing about them is that a few years ago one of the guys in the band decided that he needed to do something musically more complex and then he wrote an... opera...

Well, at least he said it was an opera. I listened to half of it (had to go to vomit in the middle) and it was pathetic... strangely enough Plácido Domingo was involved in that project and was the tenor singing in the recorded CD.
