^^Well thatīs the problem with these records - at least when you get into the more obscure - they tend to be a bit pricy... I wonīt even go into those RPI ones that I have on my to get list
If you donīt mind used records, then thereīs a wide variety of options then. The problem with buying these online though, is that you donīt know whether theyīre tip-top or scraped beyond recognition I must say, that Iīve been fairly lucky so far - only bought 2 bummers out of well I donīt know really - A LOT. BTW Have you ever heard Lard Free? Pretty out there band that I think youīd probably dig. Edited by Guldbamsen - November 07 2011 at 18:46 |

They are all fantastic really but start with the debut, unless you wanna go down the avant road first and get Unnamed |

Iīm really looking forward to have a listen, and in all honesty, Iīve never even heard of the band before. Nighty night people. |

I think of the samples posted, the C/Klusters were my favourite, I'll likely need to acquire some albums.
Furthermore, here: There is word that it's a "fake" album from a lot more recently than 1971, but nothing definitive. The only credits on the album are, apparently, "Edward Fraser and Christopher French, 21-22 Dec 1971." Regardless of when and whom it's actually from, very good |

I'm not even sure it's possible to purchase. I (ahem) acquired it via legitimate means.

I was standing in line at my local supermarket here the other day - with a big bag of beetroots listening to Canīs Peel Sessions. This little old lady stood behind me, which I didnīt pick up on at first, but upon turning my head around, a tiny white/bluish haired witch like woman was staring at me in sheer amazement with her peepers wide open. I took one of my headphones out, and said hi with a smile. Are you allright? She asks me. Yeah, of course why shouldnīt I be?(starting to laugh, but keeping it under wraps)
Is that music youīre listening to? She asks in a manner - like if she really wanted to know, if I secretly enjoyed eating gunpowder. Yep - itīs Can, a German Krautrock band. Do you fancy a listen? I pop the headphones on the slightly confused elderly lady, and it was this track thundering away just when Damo is starting to get into it: Her instant reaction was something like: UUGHHG! You know that female outcry that usually comes after the spotting of a kitchen mouse. That was clearly the final straw for me, and I started laughing like some kind of insane madman - getting tears in my eyes, picturing myself with a bag of beetroots in one hand whilst talking to this lady about Can My guess is that she didnīt particularly care for it... |

I try not to do that to anyone ... in the end, FOR ME, this hurts the ability for many folks to listen to music and realize that there are other musics out there, and they sound very different.
Our house was reared in classical music (many K of LP's still there), and dad, who had a very good ear for listening to music history -- for he had it all in historical order too -- and one could say that different musics, after living in Portugal, Brazil and America, is not an issue for me ... but IT IS for most "progressive" and "prog" listeners, that are not always open minded about music, in general ... always on the defensive and defending their top of the pops, and discussing idealistic details about the music that actually make it seem like ... kid's play ... for no composer would be bound by those ideas or conventions, ever, anywhere in the world, unless he was just scripting another Hollywood movie! I guess you go where the money and evil is?
I know a lot of older folks that love classical music, and tend to not like rock music. Many of them do not have an issue listening to Vangelis, or Tomita (took my dad a while, too!) or Mike Oldfield, or even catching some Coltrane, but they have a hard time with the much more modern Jarrett, for example, or even some of the more complex and challenging listens that one can get from some of these "progressive" gods, but then, not all of those mentioned above can listen to Schoenberg or Maxwell Davies!
The other thing that is very HARD for many of these older listeners, and sometimes myself as well, is the insistence for "popular music" and "commercial music" to be stuck on the beats, and not develop the music itself, which is what the history of music has been about for at least a couple thousand of years!
In the end, helping those people understand and learn about more music, is what this is about ... and you failed! And I do not want to disappoint you, but Mani would not be happy ... the last thing he would ever want to do is alienate people and not help them know what the music is all about ...
Please, if I may ask, be an AMBASSADOR for all music ... not make fun of people because they could not understand what you played for them.
|
|||
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I know what you mean Mosh, but on the other hand she was not turning my offer down. Maybe I left that part out. She was willing to hear it. Also, she seemed elated that I laughed at this highly peculiar scene. I know you are a defender of the faith - here being music, and the magic it constitutes, but please donīt lecture me about a subject that clearly is laughable and only meant that way. I was not making fun of her, but at this crazy event. How often do you have the chance to play krautrock to an old lady? No.one was hurt, and it seems a few here got a wee giggle out of it. |

Hey John about that Can...
Seeing as itīs getting a bit late over here - the night is black, and I mean black - here where I live now has little or no street lighting at night, and looking outside is like looking through tar, -but yeah seeing as it is getting late, I need something soothing from that Can, and Iīm putting on Future Days. I find that record highly soothing and beautiful. Earlier on I played Monster Movie and it got me dancing like Yogi bear - not one Iīd suggest myself now though... Wouldnīt want to keep myself up all night |

Can is my all times favorite Kautrock band and Future Days their most perfect album. The second one is probably Soon Over Babaluma. In third position I'll put the First Holger Czuckay's masterpiece : Movies.
Ps : I never say Krautrock, but Kautrock. It's not a mistake. In french, Kraut (crotte) means dog sheet. |

Yep the more I hear of it, the more I fall in love with that Soon over Babaluma. There is a distinct continuation of Future Days happening, not in a derivative way but more like elaborating on those soft and sombre textures.
Hey Pierre - I only have his Canaxis album and find it pretty mesmerizing. He was a fountain of musical inspiration back in those days. Oh and I love dog sheet rock!!!! |
