The Krautrock Space

No full albums yet, but they've been on my wishlist for a good while now.

I´m really looking forward to have a listen, and in all honesty, I´ve never even heard of the band before.

I was standing in line at my local supermarket here the other day - with a big bag of beetroots listening to Can´s Peel Sessions. This little old lady stood behind me, which I didn´t pick up on at first, but upon turning my head around, a tiny white/bluish haired witch like woman was staring at me in sheer amazement with her peepers wide open. I took one of my headphones out, and said hi with a smile. Are you allright? She asks me. Yeah, of course why shouldn´t I be?(starting to laugh, but keeping it under wraps)
Is that music you´re listening to? She asks in a manner - like if she really wanted to know, if I secretly enjoyed eating gunpowder.
Yep - it´s Can, a German Krautrock band. Do you fancy a listen? I pop the headphones on the slightly confused elderly lady, and it was this track thundering away just when Damo is starting to get into it:

Her instant reaction was something like: UUGHHG! You know that female outcry that usually comes after the spotting of a kitchen mouse. That was clearly the final straw for me, and I started laughing like some kind of insane madman - getting tears in my eyes, picturing myself with a bag of beetroots in one hand whilst talking to this lady about Can
My guess is that she didn´t particularly care for it...

I guess you go where the money and evil is?   I know a lot of older folks that love classical music, and tend to not like rock music. Many of them do not have an issue listening to Vangelis, or Tomita (took my dad a while, too!) or Mike Oldfield, or even catching some Coltrane, but they have a hard time with the much more modern Jarrett, for example, or even some of the more complex and challenging listens that one can get from some of these "progressive" gods, but then, not all of those mentioned above can listen to Schoenberg or Maxwell Davies!   The other thing that is very HARD for many of these older listeners, and sometimes myself as well, is the insistence for "popular music" and "commercial music" to be stuck on the beats, and not develop the music itself, which is what the history of music has been about for at least a couple thousand of years!   In the end, helping those people understand and learn about more music, is what this is about ... and you failed! And I do not want to disappoint you, but Mani would not be happy ... the last thing he would ever want to do is alienate people and not help them know what the music is all about ...   Please, if I may ask, be an AMBASSADOR for all music ... not make fun of people because they could not understand what you played for  them.

I know what you mean Mosh, but on the other hand she was not turning my offer down. Maybe I left that part out. She was willing to hear it. Also, she seemed elated that I laughed at this highly peculiar scene. I know you are a defender of the faith - here being music, and the magic it constitutes, but please don´t lecture me about a subject that clearly is laughable and only meant that way. 
I was not making fun of her, but at this crazy event. How often do you have the chance to play krautrock to an old lady? No.one was hurt, and it seems a few here got a wee giggle out of it.

Love Monster Movie ! I'm going to start with Delay 1968 with Mr.Mooney on vocals then hit Monster Move,Sountracks and so on.Should be a blast.

Yep the more I hear of it, the more I fall in love with that Soon over Babaluma. There is a distinct continuation of Future Days happening, not in a derivative way but more like elaborating on those soft and sombre textures.

Hey Pierre - I only have his Canaxis album and find it pretty mesmerizing. He was a fountain of musical inspiration back in those days.

Oh and I love dog sheet rock!!!!
