Eric, not to reduce human life to simply a part of the environment, although in many ways, that is all we are, but trees = good for the earth and the continued existence of all species.  humans (at least in the numbers we have now) = bad for the earth and a threat to the continued existence of all species. 

Number 2.  I have never and will never chain myself to a tree.  I have allergies.  Wink


Well, the fact of the matter is more trees are planted than harvested. I think we're good.

No, if a person is in a vegetative state they should be cooked and eaten.   And I would leave the decision up to the fictional character Will Riker or the fictional actor Will Wheaton.

Interestingly enough, this line of thinking is in the IEEE code of ethics. I forget the exact wording, but we're charged with planning for every possible use and misuse of any technology we create.

Keep in mind it was originally written in German. Secondly, I've never read a work by any philosopher that couldn't have holes poked in it. Just because it aint perfect, doesnt mean it's useless.

There has never been one thing I've agreed with yo more about. Most philosophers who have something interesting to say don't know how to say it with brevity or wit. Kant is second only to certain people who responded to him.

Depends on how severe the holes are. I don't find his writing particularly profound. I've read plenty of works translated from German that are coherent. I'm sure he was unable to write in German too.

Glad someone agrees with me on this point. It's sad that you can read Aristotle and have it be infinitely more clear than Kant despite the obvious difficulty in translating the former compared to the later.

Kant's philosophy is immensely more complex than is Aristotle's. That's like saying your Calculus book is bad because you had a much harder time understanding it than your 3rd grade arithmetic book.
