And just what is space rock anyway? I played the Royal Albert Hall recording last night from the Tangerine Dream bootleg box and that was done in 1975,a period where what TD were doing was called space rock. The space I can sort of understand, but where's the rock? There are no drums,no bass (guitar that is),no vocals,no traditional song structure, nothing that has anything of even the flimsiest to do with what is normally thought of as rock music. I still think that TD in the 70's were so far beyond, and so far outside any popular musical form that to call what they did "rock" of any kind is as absurd as calling Stockhausen reggae.

Of course I voted for Guru Guru. Dance Of The Flames is perhaps one of my all time favourite albums. I own about 20 Guru Guru albums under various lineups Mani is one of my favourite drummers. Read my biography on the band and some of my reviews in the archives. There are so many Krautrock bands I am into. It would just be too stupid to list them all.

Yes, also Sergius Golowin/Lord Krishna von goloka, forgetting the painful
lyrics, the music is fantastic.

Not painful lyrics at all......Golowin vocals & esoteric recitations add something special to this mysthical musical adventure

The cosmic jokers are space rock IMO. Tangerine Dream - space rock. Amon Duul - space rock. So the three bands i "forgot" i happen to listen to and consider to be space/psychadelic. so chill folks, especially you Eddy, dear god. |
So you make a distinction between space rock and Krautrock?
For me Krautrock is simply german prog.
|
personnaly I consider Krautrock as a sub-genre of german prog...it is more closed to a kind of 70s psychedelic & free form rock from Germany. Some say that it is simply the german rock music of the 70s, some others say that it is german prog, and at last a few say that it is the old school of german electronic scene. So make your choice!

I think that I'm going to vote for Ash ra tempel (if you expect the band Ashra)...they made constant musical quality in their 6 first albums...difficult to vote for Annexus Quam (that I really like) because they made just two albums, the same thing for Dzyan...for Mythos it's different...I take their first album for one of my all time favorite, but what they have made after Dreamlab is just passable. However it's hard to make the good choice between Popol Vuh, ART end Agitation Free...huumm, let's go for ART

my choice has to be Ash Ra Tempel.
Not only for the first 4 amazing albums but also for what Manual Gottsching did previously with The Steeplechase Band and his later solo work and what Klaus Schulze went onto do.Also, for their involvement with the Kosmische Musik /Cosmic Jokers.
