yes, 'the art of rebellion' was clearly an attempt from their record company to embrace a wider audience, by asking ST to "mellow" their music. But it's nevertheless a very good album. Produced by Peter Collins (Rush, Queensr˙che).

Currently listening to the late Eva Cassidy, such a great voice !

Before :

fantastic collection of cantatas of the elisabethan era. Solo countertenor and countertenor/bass duets alternate with harpsichord/viola da gamba in the background, augmented by trumpet or flute.

Now :

an album featuring all members of Brand X (it was recorded between 'unorthodox behaviour' and 'moroccan roll', and "phobos and deimos" has probably inspired one track on "moroccan roll", don't remember which one).
Jack Lancaster of Blodwyn Pig fame is featured on wind instruments (essentially saxophone, but also the odd lyricon).
Robin Lumley shines on it, he is responsible for the spacey atmospheres and is given more liberty than in the other Brand X records.
It's more diverse than Brand X, prog rock meets space rock meets ambient, alternating between quiet spacey passages and more aggressive ones.

his then-wife, Julia Roberts, is featured in backing vocals on two or three tracks.
The title of this album is in strong contrast with a song  listened to yesterday and covered by Slayer on their semi-tribute album 'undisputed attitude', "I hate you"

Some modern rock inspired by the burgeoning goth-rock of the early eighties :
