Yeah I really respect morningrise's work because he's doing the effort all by himself, doing a great job and i'm having a blast in the tournament, but the average tiebreak it is a little strange. In this particular round the average rating per album would have been more fair because both bands have similar amount of albums with lots of ratings... Anyway, I love both bands so is ok for me

They should be calculated by every 100 ratings or something. Obviously, if it were between TMV and say, Birds and Buildings, who have only one album and many great ratings, TMV would win.
But Beardfish has a significant amount of ratings, and if it were decided like that, they would win. |

Honestly it's a pretty problematic system what you have there. Say a band has a random album with only a few ratings and the average is close to 5 stars then it raises the entire average a fair lot, even though hardly anyone listened to the album. These contests are much based on band popularity, and so it makes sense that most average ratings win the competition. And anyway no one's actually losing... It's a poll....

I would say Beardfish have overall better ratings than TMV.

Well said. Nobody is winning or losing anything, apart PA that has attracted some Spock's Beard fans recently.

While the tie-break system seems very odd to me as well (much prefer average ratings across albums rather than number of ratings -- a band theoretically with, say, one album with 1000 ratings with an average rating of 3 stars could beat a band with an album with an average rating of 5 stars and 800 ratings this way), this is the topic starter's series of polls and respect that he can do it any way he wants. If anyone wants to, they can always set up their own competitions according to their own rules.
Ratings are overrated, anyway.... |

What a stupid, illogical tie-break system.
This shows that The Mars Volta are much better known but attracted less votes per person who knows them - that should actually count AGAINST them!
Far better to do average rating per album; this would give Beardfish 3.95 and The Mars Volta 3.834, so Beardfish win.

Interesting situation. I'm going to listen to Melos by Cervello, which I bought today. I'll close the poll once the album finishes (40 minutes more or less) So far The Mars Volta is winning thanks to the tiebreaker...1 vote for Beardfish changes everything...
