When I have finished copying and cleaning my collection of prog rareities, I will be ripping them to MP3 and will be able to put them onto 1 CD.

Is anybody willing to swap my rareities (plus any requests of music I have in my collection) - for a similar CD of MP3's that I want to add to my collection !

Here we go again with these dumb MP3's. I've said it before on this site I don't download any music off the internet if I want it I go out to the music store and BUY it. Artists are hurt by this practice today just as they were hurt by audio cassettes back in the seventies and eighties. When I began collecting records I had a JOB and worked to be able to listen to my favourite music. Music stores have listening posts. I haven't even bought a bootleg in my life either.

Well I have a collection of bootlegs (mainly live stuff) - and what about stuff you cannot get hold of but somene else has in their collection?

Right - I will still buy CD's (if I like the CD enough) and I reckon I have spent at least £10,000 on the music I like - If everybody had bought as much as me then most musicians would have a comfortable income ! (6M in Britain x 100000) is

£600,000,000,000 - thats a lot of money !!!

Well, you have this stupid internet. There's just about nothing you can't get a hold of here, we have a family friend who makes her living selling antiques over the net. I don't buy music over the net because I got burned out of a couple of hundred dollars once. Just because you buy millions of CD's doesn't give you carte blanche to rip off musicians.

Music shops buy millions of CDs and it's generally accepted that they're allowed to rip off musicians, isn't it...?

 

and... what about

  • legal free downloads
  • out of print downloads
  • bootlegs by bands who have never released a live album?

I used to download a few proper albums but I've been finding more and more of them are becoming possible to buy. I'm not throwing away the burnt CDs yet but I'm certainly planning on upgrading to proper CD versions, some day when I have a job and some money...

This site is dedicated to prog-rock, the prog-collective on here may all have very rare recordings that you possibly WILL NOT FIND - even on the net, thus a little co-operation and we can all share in our respective collections - This is the philanthropist speaking here....I want to share my prog with my brothers....

Which store do you buy from?

Do you shop around for the best price or do you just go in and buy what and where you want because you can afford it?
