Simple question: what is the best (or your favorite)adaptation from a Philip K. Dick work tho cinema?
First of all, I just want to say that, for me, Blade Runner is a bit (only a bit) overrated, and Impostor is underrated. |

I have not read any of the books but i have seen both Blade Runner and Minority Report, probably also Total Recall, i think Minority Report is one of Tom Cruises best films, it is marvelous and is very similar to Blade Runner in the way that it is about one guy who have to fight a hole coporation without knowing who the real enemy is.

Philip K. Dick is one of my favourite writers. My favourites of his are Ubik and Dr. Bloodmoney (love to see a film adaptation of Dr. Bloodmoney). The movies tend to be very loosely based on his stories. I liked the movie, A Scanner Darkly very much, which gave me a suitable sense of paranoia or claustrophobia (can't describe it that enough since I haven't had my coffee yet), and will get my vote. Blade Runner, though very loosely based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, was a very good film and the one that had the biggest impact on me (especially when it came out I loved it). Beautiful visuals.
I haven't seen a few of these, and there are still many Dick stories I have left to read (ones that local libraries don't carry). By the way, for those who wish to get to know Dick a little better: http://www.philipkdick.com/ |

^Ubik is my favourite book from PKD, and the film will be directed by Michel Gondry: http://www.slashfilm.com/michel-gondry-adapting-philip-dick-ubik/
P.S.: Sorry for the dirty word... ![]() |

Philip K Dick is probably my favorite writer. I've seen Blade Runner, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, and Total Recall. Of these, my favorite is definitely Blade Runner for the mood.

Can't vote since I've never read any of his works, but plan to do so, though I will say A Scanner Darkly is one of my favorite movies.
Minority Report was better than I expected and remember liking Total Recall. So his books must be pretty sick as well. |

I've liked every book I've read by him so far...also enjoyed every movie I've seen so far by him. Since you forgot to add Blade Runner, and I haven't seen all of these, I have to vote for A Scanner Darkly (though The Adjustment Bureau was actually pretty awesome too, I thought, I haven't read the story it's based on yet).

I've only seen a couple of those. I didn't realize they were Dick flicks.

Radio Free Albemuth is finished waiting release.
The film rights to two related stories, Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said and VALIS have been sold.

Neat to hear about the film adaptation Ubik -- great book, though I doubt it will do it justice, but then I rarely find movie adaptations nearly as satisfying as the books (Truffaut's adaptation of Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 being an exception). I still think Dr. Bloodmoney would be a really good one to adapt for film, but might come off pretty cheesy.
That looks quite interesting, Dean. I haven't read Radio Free Albemuth. I found VALIS rather difficult to get into, but should read it again some time. |

I'm voting for Total Recall because I actually like how they picked up an already fantatsic idea for a story and kept going with it. And of course, for all the cheesy Arnie one-liners.

^There's a remake being made, starring Colin Farrel and directed by Len Wiseman.
The original one is awesome, they really expanded the original idea from the short story!

I vote for Total Recall. I also quite enjoyed Minority Report, but Paycheck was an abomination, especially considering the utter genius of the original story.

Would Minority Report have been better if it were someone other than Tom Cruise in the lead role?

I'll vote for Adjustment Bureau, I liked MR but it was a bit muddled in plot and appearance and Blade Runner is more a work of art than a well-written story, and Recall... ouch. Haven't seen the first two on list.
