That's a shame, but I guess they're not to everyone's tastes. Why did you buy two of their records if you dislike them so much ?

If Spocks Beard wins this poll, I will lose all my faith in this website. I REALLY wish i could vote. Godspeed is by far more progressive. When i listen to Spocks Beard, its music to entertain me in my passing time, something to drown out the annoying noises of my world. When i listen to Godspeed, I sit down and savor every note in a cognitive trance... Godspeed turns into a day defining experience consuming your thoughts with their dynamic soundscapes and soaring peaks. Progarchives and Godspeed fans, please dont disappoint me. PLEASE! |

People, keep posting and then vote when you are allowed to. You have time until Saturday. Important: if things remain tied by Saturday, Spock's Beard has the tiebreaker advantage (more studio album ratings avg)

I have those two plus Lift Your Skinny Fists. I downloaded all 3 albums at the same time because GY!BE were so worshipped here on PA. I've never been so bored in my life then when trying to listen to those albums. I put them aside and I recently replayed them and mostly the same result. Just not my cup of tea.

To be honest, I'm very very impressed that GYBE is doing so well against Spock's Beard; it shows that even though retro prog fans are a strong presence here (as they ought to be), they're nowhere near the dominant force cynical souls have made them out to be.

It's a concern to you that Progressive is almost as popular as retro music?

This has got to be the most polarizing polls I have ever seen on PA. On most polls like this, people say, “Well, I like both bands, but I like this one a little more.” Here, people tend to love Godspeed and hate SB, or vice versa. Both bands seem to have had quite a profound impact on their fans.
I can’t wait for future rounds!

You think this poll is polarizing? Dream Theater vs. Kayo Dot may end up being one of the future rounds in the tournament. That will be a sh*tstorm, ladies and gentlemen.

With 30,000+ members, why are there less than 100 votes? Does PA just have that many unactive users?

I've given a few of these "Post Rock" bands a good listen, GY!BE among them. Also Mogwai, Sigur Ros, etc. Do they qualify? I've got loads of stuff by the latter. What I hear (and it's just my opinion) is musicians of limited ability trying desperately to sound epic and interesting with the use of effects and (so called) soundscapes. It's just different tastes that's all. I was disappointed when Talk Talk went from The Colour of Spring to Spirit of Eden and prefer post-Meddle Floyd. I suspect fans of GY!BE would say the opposite. No probs.........

Yes. I couldn't tell you how many people used to post here in 2005 and 2006, and haven't seen since. Some people also take extended breaks. I wasn't really here in 2007 and part of 2008.

And what I hear in Retro prog is Musicians of considerable ability trying their very best to sound identical to the bands that they literally masturbated to at 15.
Just lack of creativity is all.
No probs

In the same way, no doubt, that the members of GY!BE "literally masturbated" to the likes of The Velvet Underground, Talk Talk and Tortoise in their teens

Just look through the Memberlist. I'd be willing to day 50% of the members haven't logged in in over a year, and most are newbies.

Also some people haven't heard enough from these bands to make a good vote in good conscience. I've only one Spock's Beard album (X, though it is good), and I have heard snippets of GY!BE on youtube, though I have streamed the whole Lift your skinny fingers. I can't in good conscience vote having only heard that.
