Topic: Favorite concert on DVD Posted: November 20 2004 at 16:14 |
Tell me your favorite show on DVD and why has it hook you up?
These days I'm really into ARENA's CAUGHT IN THE ACT
Some people in the site thought it was funny
Rob Sowden is INTENSE, but really he's just trying to pull a good gig
Close your eyes and just listen...ahhh you know it's all good!

- Steve Hackett - Tokyo Tapes: Hackett alone would deserve to be listened, but if you add Wetton, Thompson, Colbert and Mc'Donald playing Genesis, Hackett and King Crimson songs is amazing, even The Heat of the Moment sounds very good with Steve backuping John Wetton. A must have.
- PFM - Live in Japan: Amazing, they have passed the 50's barrier and play as good as 30 years ago.
- Roger Waters - In the Flesh Live: Excelent choice of musicians and great playlist, more Floyd than the Gilmour Floyd.
- Kansas - Device, Voice, Drum: Almost perfect playlist, great lineup (even without Kerry) excelent versions, despite the lack of voice that Walsh is suffering since 10 years ago.
- Yes - Live at QPR: The only chance to see Yes with Patrick Moraz, three hours of great music and all Relayer.
- Focus - Masters from the Vaults: Only chance to see Thijs and Jan Ackerman playing together their best tracks including a live version of Hamburger Concert.
- Rush - Rock in Rio: Some people say the crowd is too loud, but Rush feeds themselves from the audience that loves them in almost a religious way.
- Pink Floyd - Pulse: Good DVD, I like Gilmour's voice better than Roger's and the show is incredible, but I stay with In the Flesh.
- ELP - Live at The Royal Albert Hall: Excellent DVD, ELP classics, not one of the best recordings, but still very good.
- Fleetwood Mac - The Dance: Yes I Like some Pop once in a while!!! And what?

The two Focus DVDs are the only ones I own, but as I said in a review for Moving waves this band back in the seventies was a lousy live act and I prefer the more recent DVD with the new line-up. Can't wait for Focus 9!

Merlin - Bard Of The Unseen
I love this DVD.Some of it is a bit 'cheesy' in a seventies Rick Wakeman sort of way but to me it's great fun and the songs and playing are of the highest order.
I also love:
Yes - Symphonic Live (brilliant presentation and first rate sound quality of all my favourite Yes songs)
Rush In Rio (Rocks!)
ELP - Works Orchestral (It's ELP!)
Gentle Giant - Giant On The Box (Amazing performance-they remind me of a bunch of hyper-active kids who just want to play with everything.Great fun watching them do it!)

You're right, it's a copy from a Laser Disk, but the value of the DVD is to see Yes with Moraz, my second favorite Yes Keyboardist and the excelent track list.

Yes Symphnonic-not a bad moment on this DVD,
though I wish there was a way to turn off that symbol
that keeps showing up telling me that I can watch
computer animation, instead of the band playing.
Marillion-Brave Live and Afraid of Sunlight Live-both
of these are available through their website.
I wish there were better ELP DVDs though. I'd love to
find a DVD of a concert at the height of their career,
such as the California Jam concert.
