Yes very easy listening, like a album of Peter Hammil's solo, i don't feel a big research on songwriting on this one...

I made pretty much the same point in my review. Good, but ultimately disappointing really.

Phideaux - Snowtorch
Riverside - Memories in my Head (EP, that is better than some of the albums I've heard)
Wobbler - Rites at Dawn
Devin Townsend - Deconstruction

Waiting on...

Haken - Visions
Rush - Clockwork Angels (heard a few tracks, very excited)
Steve Hackett - Beyond the Shrouded Horizon
Van Der Graaf Generator - A Grounding in Numbers

Out of those porky ones I´d say:
Grails - Deep Politics
Korekyojinn - Tundra
Phideaux - Snowtorch

Oh and I received a free download of Danish band PAPIR´s new album - filled to the brim of psychedelic Krautrock, jams and the gentle sounds of a coffeemakerBig smile Wonderful stuff, and I wouldn´t be surprised if it was released on cd soon, because they´ve managed to cook up a record deal since their debut.

For me, it's William D. Drake's The Rising of the Lights. He's not been added to the archives yet, but this album is just a beautiful collage of the best elements of prog, psych, pop, folk and everything in between. Very complex at times, but never once sacrificing melody and charm. It ought to be topping everybody's lists, IMO, but for now he remains a frustratingly well-kept secret.

I haven't listened to Leprous enough to make a firm call yet. Still have only heard the promo single from Opeth. Extremely excited about the new Cynic EP. Listening to Tartar Lamb II for the first time right now. Spotify has made this process so much less expensive.

I've heard (in addition to the ones in the sig)
Yes - Fly from Here - pleasant, could have been (much) worse
Wobbler - Rites at Dawn - the actual new Yes album. Fun retro prog
Leprous - Bilateral - a big step forward
Make a Rising - well done, a little scattered
Phideaux - Snowtorch - good but Doomsday was better
BtBAM - Parralax - my favorite album of theirs yet, top ten for me
Battles - Glass Drop - solid but definitely a notch down from Mirrored
Disconnect - Indivision - middle of the road modern prog
Nemo - Revolusion - middle of the road modern prog
Fen - Epoch - over-rated. Could have been very nice, but got boring.
Devin Townsend - Ghost - very nice ambient album, unassuming, not very prog
Decemberists - King is Dead - not prog, some nice songs. Abandoned prog fans. Not prog.
Scale the Summit - the Collective - the kids are getting better
Sky Architect - A Dying Man's Hymn - pretty straightforward heavy prog

Gillian Welch's new album is great
Fleet Foxes new album is better than their first which really didn't do too much for me. New one is good, not great.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

That sounds interesting, is there anywhere one can listen to samples?

Yeah, he really should get off his lazy butt and make some music.

Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have looked, another September new release:

At the Gates of Paradise
John Zorn: At The Gates Of Paradise [#7392]
Channelling the work of Romantic visionary William Blake and ancient Gnostic writings from the Nag Hammadi archives, At the Gates of Paradise is the newest installment in Zorn’s ever growing catalog of mystical works. The music is filled with bright light and a childlike innocence, and ranges from long form compositions with constantly shifting time signatures that unfold with a compelling inner logic to mysterious ballads and hypnotic moods. Featuring an all-star quartet of Zorn true believers, 20-year veterans who perform this music with a special passion and searing intensity, the performances are filled with exciting solos and brilliant group interaction.

Then there's these:
John Zorn: A Dreamers Christmas [#7393]
The biggest surprise of the year is John Zorn's beautiful Christmas CD. Zorn has hand picked seven of his favorite Christmas songs, penned two lovely originals and they are performed here in classic Dreamers style with plenty of exciting solos, exotic colors and catchy lyricism. Filled with a joyful holiday spirit, innocence, a touch of nostalgia and a charming lyricism, this is music for all ages that will make you smile with delight from the very first notes. As a special treat, vocalist Mike Patton delivers an intimate and heartfelt rendition of Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, making A Dreamers Christmas an instant classic, and an essential CD for any
contemporary Christmas celebration. PICTURE DISC ALSO AVAILABLE ON HI
QUALITY LIMITED EDITION VINYL.

John Zorn: Elegy—20th Anniversary Edition [#7302]
Composed, recorded and originally released in Japan in 1992, Elegy is one of Zorn's most important "file-card" compositions. Drawing inspiration from the writings of Jean Genet, it creates a mysterious musical world of erotic perversion, blending rock, classical, improvisation and more. Featuring some of San Francisco’s most interesting musicians, including Mike Patton (Faith No More, Fantômas), Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3), David Slusser (George Lucas, David Lynch, Pixar) and William Winant (John Cage, Lou Harrison, Thurston Moore)—now all long time Zorn alumni—Elegy is a cinematic masterpiece. Back in print after a year in limbo, this new digipack edition includes an expanded booklet beautifully redesigned by Chippy, filled with photos, testimonies and remembrances by the musicians.

Will they be able to beat their terrific debut ? Hehe.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

I don't think I'll ever understand what people mean when they call music "charming" and why that is so positive. Although I can certainly hear why you like it

So far I've been unimpressed with 2011 prog releases, but I have high hopes for the new Primus album. The new Random album is quite good, and the new Machine Head album might be good too (they're kind of proggy, but only in a more-interesting-than-the-rest thrash metal kind of way.)
