Truthy, have you ever listened to John Mellencamp?  You might like his latest album No Better Than This.  It was produced by T-Bone Burnett and it was basically a back to basics mono recording.  Acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, and John Mellencamp channelling Bob Dylan (sort of reminds me a bit of him anyways).  You might like, you might not, but I was thinking that you should check it out as I was listening to it yesterday.

I've never really gotten into John Mellencamp as most of his stuff sound repetitive but this song is exceptional. Thumbs Up
