My personal favorites are After the Gold Rush and Weld, with the nod going to Weld - which is probably my favorite live album, ever. This list was culled from my favorite twelve albums in his catalog. Although, admittedly, Freedom and American Stars N' Bars are only there for a few songs, each.

I don't know his catalog nearly well enough to say, but I get a lot of enjoyment from Prairie Wind, just a fine collection of songs

Of the ones I own, it'd be a toss up between Freedom and Harvest. Harvest is masterly but Freedom was my introduction to the man's work and is good to boot.

Keep on Dockin' in the pee gourd! Aww, great song. Ever heard 'Rust Never Sleeps'? It's like a shorter, more consistent Freedom with the same double song acou/electro shtick. Released ten years prior, too.

Honestly, perhaps the most consistent single album from Neil in the style I like most would be Living With War. I love almost every track. Maybe if it were rawer and recorded live with some extended solos and a grungier feel like Greendale or Freedom, it would be orgasm town. I do like Decade because it gets a lot of what I like about Neil and skips a lot of the meh.

Oh god, so hard to choose. I picked On the Beach but I'd say more or less all the ones you've picked out there are classics, with the exception of American Stars and Bars.

Gave my vote to Harvest as it hadn't actually got one yet. Probably his warmest album, with stellar song after stellar song. But I nearly went with On the Beach' too and After the Goldrush. Both were close |

^^^ When he rips Cortez the Killer out live I always have a smile on my face. To be honest, I don't see why Cortez couldn't have been on On the Beach - it's the perfect antithesis to Revolution Blue.

I´m probably his biggest fan east of Belgium, and I own all but 2 or 3 of his releases. I think he´s up there with Dylan, Bowie, Cohen and Reed regarding songwriting. He blows all of those out of the water on guitar though.
I love Weld too, and I think it renewed Neil´s interest in music. Weld owes a great deal of inspiration to Sonic Youth and the screaming feedback screeches and noises they brought to the fore. Neil was very impressed with this, and all over Weld you´ll hear him punishing the airwaves with his sonic exorcisms. He´s not the fastest gunslinger in town, but he sure packs a punch to be reckoned with. Like a hurricane? Quite. I could vote for nearly every album featured here, but my heart says Zuma - so there you go.

Had to go with Rust Never Sleeps. It is a brilliant reinvention of himself for the punk era, and the last great album of the 70s. Of course, Harvest, After the Goldrush and Everybody Knows this is Nowhere are all brililant as well. And whether with a band or solo, Ol' Neil has put on some of the best concerts I've seen over the years.
